OMNISCIENT TUESDAY
By Denisia Adams

Good Day to you hope to doing excellent on this tasteful Tuesday.

Today on the Morning Cruise was Omniscient Tuesday where we kept you in the know between 9am – 12pm:

WORD(s) OF THE DAY
beguile [bi-gahyl]:
to influence by trickery, flattery or to take away from by cheating or deceiving: to be beguiled of money.

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
Where is the leading whale watching spot in South Africa?

A - False Bay B - Mossel Bay C - Hermanus

Answer: C - Hermanus

Hermanus has grown from rustic fishermen's village to being
acknowledged by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) as one of the 12
best Whale viewing sites in the world. From its rocky cliffs, Whales
can be seen as close as 5 metres (16.4 feet). It is also the only
place in the world where one can watch the Whales and, by means of an
underwater microphone, hear their calls at the same time.

DID YOU KNOW
The hippo is the third biggest land animal, slightly smaller but
heavier than a white rhino - the elephant is the biggest. But no
animal has killed more people than the hippo.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Turn Stress Into Success

Step1
Recognize what is causing your stress. Many important things stress us out along with many minor things that seem major. Determining what is stressing you allows you to either deal with that item of stress or compartmentalize the stressful issue, so you can move on.

Step2
Do something to take your mind off what is stressing you out. If you can do something fun for an afternoon or an evening, you can completely forget about your problems, even if it's just for awhile.

Step3
Get a good night's sleep. When something is stressing you out, getting a good, full night's sleep can erase the problems of yesterday and allow you to start over fresh with a new day.

Step4
Plan your success after you are refreshed and are not thinking about the problems that are bothering you. Sit down with a notepad and pen and write out a plan to achieve your success. Your plan should be an actionable plan that can legitimately achieve your success.

Step5
Enact your plan for success. You may have to deal with the issue that stressed you out, but you should develop a plan for handling that in a good timeframe. You want to deal with that issue, but have a plan for doing so.

WE ALSO FEATURED:
An interview with Mark Ridl from Karrimor who joined us to speak about safety when hiking.
Tips for safe hiking

· 1. Review the equipment, supplies and skills that you'll need for your outing. Consider the kinds of
emergencies you may encounter and plan for them.

· 2. Hone your outdoor skills. For example, if you need to know how to use a compass, erect a temporary
shelter or provide first aid, ensure that you practice these skills before the trip.

· 3. Make sure that you're in proper physical condition for your adventure.

· 4. It's best to hike or camp with at least one other person. If you're travelling to a remote area, you should
have a minimum of four people in your group. If someone becomes injured or sick, one person can stay
with the victim while the two others go for help.

· 5. Bring emergency signalling devices. In case of emergency, know the location of the nearest ranger
station.

· 6. Leave a copy of your itinerary with someone. It should include details about your vehicle, a list of
equipment you have with you, and your scheduled date of return.

We then spoke to Benita from Co Dependent anonymous (CODA) who joined us to speak about codependency, what is etc.

Codependency is when a person has a strong desire to control people around them, including their spouse, children or co-workers. Codependents believe they are somehow more capable than others, who need their direction or suggestions to fulfill tasks they are responsible to complete Codependency, for others, doesn't express itself in a desire to control, but instead, in the need to be controlled by others. Because it is nearly impossible for Codependents to say "no" to people, they may find themselves the victims in physically and emotionally abusive relationships. Co-dependents have low self-esteem and look for anything outside of themselves to make them feel better. They find it hard to "be themselves." Some try to feel better through alcohol, drugs or nicotine - and become addicted. Others may develop compulsive behaviors like workaholism, gambling, or indiscriminate sexual activity.

Characteristics of Co-Dependent People Are:
· An exaggerated sense of responsibility for the actions of others.
· A tendency to confuse love and pity, tendency to "love" people they can pity and rescue.
· A tendency to do more than their share, all of the time.
· A tendency to become hurt when people don’t recognize their efforts.
· An unhealthy dependence on relationships. The co-dependent will do anything to hold on to

a relationship; to avoid the feeling of abandonment.
· An extreme need for approval and recognition.
· A sense of guilt when asserting themselves.
· A compelling need to control others.
· Lack of trust in self and/or others.
· Fear of being abandoned or alone.
· Difficulty identifying feelings.
· Rigidity/difficulty adjusting to change.
· Problems with intimacy/boundaries.
· Chronic anger.
· Lying/dishonesty.
· Poor communication.
· Difficulty making decisions

Lastly we spoke to Communications Officer for the City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitary department who joined us to speak about the sms line has been introduced.

WORD(s) OF THE DAY
Rancor \RANG-ker\

bitter resentment or ill will; extreme hatred or spite

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION

A – Heinz Winkler B – Nazeem C – Gift Gwe

Answer: C – Gift Gwe

DID YOU KNOW
Gone With The Wind has been the best-attended film since its release in 1939. Without a doubt the most famous line in the movie is when Rhett Butler tells Scarlet O'Hara, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn." According to "Curse Control", a book by James O'Connor, director David Selznick was fined heavy for that curse word: $5,000. A lot of money in those days. The movie is based on the book by Margaret Mitchell. It was the only book she wrote.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Relax on a Weekend
By
Sylvia Cochran

Step1
Commit your schedule to relaxing. Just like you put your child’s ballet recital and your boss’ meeting on the calendar, relaxing also needs to be scheduled or it most likely fails to happen. Block out a chunk of time and do not double book yourself!

Step2
Exercise your power to say “no.” Although many a hard worker and dedicated friend feels awkward about saying “no” when asked to help a friend move, a teacher put together a classroom, or an overworked boss to prepare for the big meeting, if the request to do so falls into the scheduled block of relaxation time, you must exercise your “no.” Make yourself available before or after your scheduled relaxation time, but not during the block of time!

Step3
Reconnect with your family. Relaxing on weekends means spending time with your family, especially the kids. This is not the time for homework and getting the costume for the recital ready, but instead it is a time to not have to do anything! Play games, lounge in your backyard pool, dust off your guitar and sing together, or just do a crossword puzzle with your older ones.

Step4
Remember that pets are family, too! Do not shortchange your dog, but instead pack the family in the car for a drive just so that Fluffy can let its ears flap in the breeze. Even if the drive takes little more than an hour, your family pet is sure to appreciate the extra attention it might have lacked during the workweek.

Step5
Reconnect with yourself. Take some time away from everyone and plan a quiet morning on the golf course, a lonely hike up a trail, or just a drive in the car by yourself. Pop in your favorite CD, sing along to the tunes, listen to a favorite radio show, or just enjoy the peace and quiet.

Step6
Relax your body along with your mind. The previous steps focused on relaxing your mind but do not forget to also relax your body on the weekend! There are several exercises you might follow, but the hands down best is vigorous exertion followed by structured breathing exercises and a long hot shower or bath. You can almost feel your muscle groups relaxing one at a time as you do this!

WE ALSO FEATURED:
An interview with two members of the Ten Tenors who joined us to speak about their life as the Ten Tenors and also about the show, Nostalgica with only two performances at the Grand Arena 28th March 2009 at 8pm then in Johannesberg at Carnival City Casino 8th April 2009.

We the spoke to diverse artist Leon Botha who joined us to speak about his second solo exhibition taking place at the 3rdi Gallery in Cape Town. The exhibition is call Slices of Lemon an exhibition about Leon’s life experiences etc.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Help Children Reach Their Full Potential
Children are the future. Whether we know it, or not, we are all teachers. We have a personal responsibility to help every child we know reach their full potential. The best way to do this is to teach them how to learn.

Observe and listen to your child. Find out which tasks and activities they are most successful at. Learn what interests them. Learn to recognize their unique skills and abilities. Then, you will be able to use your knowledge to provide them successful ways to learn that are fitted to their own personal learning styles.

Read-Write-Discover Verbal/Linguistic: This child likes to read, write, and play word games. They are usually good at telling stories and memorizing words along with dates. Teach this child by providing lots of books on subjects they are interested in. Encourage them to begin a journal/diary to enhance their skill with words.

Dream-Believe Visual/Spatial: This learning style is represented by the children who think in images and pictures. They're the ones who usually remember where they put everything. Typically, they enjoy drawing, designing, building things, and daydreaming. These children learn particularly well when watching educational television, slides, and movies. When teaching, be sure to include lots of graphs, charts, and pictures.

Musical/Rhythmic-auditory: Does your child walk around humming, singing, or whistling? Do they want the music on while they study? Can they remember the words to all of their favorite songs and not their multiplication facts? Then they are probably using the auditory learning style. For this style, let them have their music. They will actually learn faster. If they encounter difficulty with some particular subject, make up a silly little song to help them remember.

Every child has all types of intelligence/learning styles. They normally function better in some than others. Your goal is not to teach them only in the style they seem most comfortable with. That is where you start! Once your child has experienced a few learning successes within their comfort zone, be sure to expand and try other styles. Your goal is to show them they can succeed at learning. Each and every success will lead to the next successful learning experience.

Reach New Horizons Praise every success your child experiences. Let them know you are proud of them. Always encourage them to do their own personal best.Try to give your child a practical example of how they can personally use each piece of knowledge they gain. It's much easier to remember something when we actually know how to use it.

GENDER HUB WEDNESDAY
By Denisia Adams
Hi there. What is up with you?!!! Me I’m good good you know, just doing this thing called life. Doing what I can.

Today on the Morning Cruise was Gender Hub Wednesday check it out:

WORD(s) OF THE DAY
fastidious:
hard to please; extremely refined or critical

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
Where is the heart of the Swartland?

A – Malmesbury B – Swaziland C – West Coast

Answer: A – Malmesbury
A mere 40 minutes drive from Cape Town where the rolling fields and winding vineyards of Malmesbury can be seen. The ideal place for a wonderful getaway weekend in the winter, where you can see the green wheat fields, yellow blankets of canola and beautiful flowers.

DID YOU KNOW
The world's average school year is 200 days per year. In the US, it is 180 days; in Sweden 170 days, in Japan it is 243 days. Also did you know the fear of dancing is chorophobia

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Overcome a Phobia

StepExplore exactly what it is you are afraid of about the object or situation. Is there some underlying reason that you are avoiding the object or situation? Is there something you gain by avoiding the object or situation (besides avoiding the fear or anxiety)?

StepLearn how to relax and calm yourself. There are many ways to do this. Here is one method: Take a slow deep breath into your belly to the count of six and then breathe out slowly to the count of six. Practice this daily for five minutes; increase over time to 20 minutes.

StepMake a list starting with the feared object or situation - for example, driving on freeways. Then, write down what object or situation would be slightly less anxiety-producing - for example, driving on small highways.

StepMake a list starting with the feared object or situation for example, driving on freeways. Then, write down what object or situation would be slightly less anxiety-producing for example, driving on small highways.

StepContinue making a list of items that are slightly less anxiety-producing than the previous item'for example, driving on big, busy streets, then driving on less congested streets, and so forth.

StepGet into a relaxed state using whatever method you have been practicing. Starting with the least anxiety-producing item on your list (the last item), imagine yourself in that situation as vividly as possible while continuing to breathe and stay relaxed.

StepGo on to the next item up. Visualize yourself in that situation while continuing to practice relaxation and calm yourself.

StepWork up the list, imagining yourself in each situation while continuing to practice remaining relaxed and calm. Only go to the next item when you can successfully stay calm imagining the previous item. If one of the items produces too much anxiety, stop the exercise and come back to it later. Start at the beginning of your list each time, and progress as far as you can. It may take you several sessions before you progress to the top of the list.

StepWrite down all the thoughts you have when facing your phobia, such as 'I'm going to die,' 'I'm going to have a or 'I can't breathe.'

StepWrite down alternative thoughts that would help you calm down, such as 'I am not going to die,' 'I can breathe' or 'I can relax.'

StepIn real life, put yourself in the least anxiety-producing situation on your list (the last item) and practice relaxing and calming yourself just as you imagined. Include telling yourself the alternative thoughts to help you calm down.

Good Day to you. Hope you feeling alright and ready for the 28th March 2009. So what’s happening on the 28th? Check it out:

WORD(s) OF THE DAY
melancholy:
a deep and long-lasting sadness; depressing.

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
What area in the Cape Overberg region is well known for it’s hotsprings?

A – Villiersdorp B – Calendon C – Darling

Answer: B – Calendon

Caledon is famous for its hot springs, wild flowers and rich bird life set in the rolling hills of the Overberg district. Caledon is rich in cultural history with sites of documented habitation dating back 40 000 years. The first mission stations at the Cape were established in the region and the mineral hot springs at Caledon developed into one of the first resort sites in the Cape.

DID YOU KNOW
The first city in the world to have a population of more than one million was Rome, also did you know the electric chair was invented by a dentist.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Age Gracefully

Step1 Embrace maturity Embrace your maturity.
Give up the idea that you have to be like the youth of the day. You may look great when you dress in the short skirt or the tight may make your bottom look good or you think hip hop makes you look cool but...when you see yourself through the eyes of others, you may seem to be an older person trying to hold on to his or her youth.

Step2 Maturity doesn't have to look old The same is true of your hair.
Find a style that looks flattering to you and that fits your lifestyle. Do you still have the you wore in high school or college? It may be time to turn it in for something that fits the more mature you. To dye your hair is a matter of choice, but remember that it doesn't look good if it looks like you dyed it!

Step3 Clothes can make or break the person
When you are dressing or grooming yourself, remember that you will age more gracefully if you do it well. Sloppy clothes may be good for times you need comfort, but dress yourself up often. Even if you are not going out in public, your spouse will appreciate it. The same is true of your hair, nails and body hygiene. Good practices are important every day. Nothing makes a person seem older than bad personal care.

Step4 Maturity shows patience and love
Consider all the things old people used to do that drove you up a wall. As that older person, don't allow yourself to repeat those actions. Hang on to your patience and love of life. They look good on you no matter how old you are. In fact, the more loving and patient you are, the younger you may seem to others.

WE ALSO FEATURED:
An interview with Georgina Lowell from Rawson Properties. Who joined us to discuss the decline on house prices for 2009. Due to the financial global economic crisis. For people looking to sell they might not get the amount they expected.

We then spoke to Media Manager of WWF (world wide fund) who joined us to talk about Earth Hour 2009 taking place the 28th March 2009. 2,398 cities, towns and municipalities in 83 countries have already committed to VOTE EARTH for Earth Hour 2009, as part of the worlds first global election between Earth and global warming. PROLE:
a person who performs routine tasks in a society; a member of the working class

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION

Also did you know The top selling singles of all time are Elton John's "Candle in the Wind ‘97", at 33 million, Bing Crosby's "White Christmas", 30 million, and Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock", 25 million.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Find Cheap Entertainment

Step1Check local college campuses for student musical performances, film festivals, art exhibits, theater productions, dance recitals, or sporting events. You will find that these events are free or incredibly inexpensive to attend.

Step2At your local public library you can get DVDs and books for free. Think how much you’ll save! Invite family and friends over for movie night, or make it a special evening at home with the one you love.

Step3Watch the newspaper for special discount days at theaters, museums, galleries, zoos and parks. Some offer free admission on certain days of the month to promote an exhibit or bring in first-time visitors who will return again (and oh yeah, pay the next time).

Step4Have kids? You will need a babysitter for those grown-up evenings out. Instead of paying a babysitter, work with a relative or friend and trade off watching each other's kids. This is a great way to save money.

Step5You may find that you can get cheap tickets to movies, theater productions and other shows if you attend in the early afternoon instead of the evening time.

Step6Look for places where you can buy tickets in bulk to get a 10% (or more) discount to exhibitions and events. What a great way to share the fun with friends or relatives to get the lower rate.

Step7Don’t overlook some freebies or inexpensive entertaining event like hiking, picnicing, bird watching, fishing, kayaking or camping.

Step8Get friends together to create a book club or wine tasting club where each friend brings a bottle of wine or cheese and crackers. Needless to say, ensure there is a designated driver; otherwise, plan for overnight guests, which can be fun too!

Step9You could host a campout, or volley ball, badminton, croquet, Frisbees, or softball games in your yard. Add a garden sprinkler for the kiddies. Toss in a barbecue, asking friends to bring a covered dish or package of beverages to share. If you have a pool, even more fun!

WE ALSO FEATURED:
An interview Mono Dullisear who told us briefly about his journey in the entertainment industry. Mono will also be performing this weekend at the Cape Town Festival on Saturday showcasing his brand new single and more.

We then spoke Nick Turner who joined us to speak about the exciting photographic exhibition called, "Beneath the Surface", taking place at the Exposure Gallery, Biscuit Mill Woodstock. The photographic exhibition showcases all the wonders of the Cape Town underwater sea life.

Lastly we were joined by the International known Ceri Dupree all the from Wales. Impersonator extraordinaire Ceri joined us to speak about his latest show paying tribute to Barry Humphries legendary comic creation Dmae Edna Everidge. It’s playing at the Artscape arena. Today on the Morning Cruise was our Gender Hub Show:

WORD(s) OF THE DAY
ebullient \ih-BUL-yuhnt
\
: Overflowing with enthusiasm or excitement; high-spirited

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
What town in the Overberg Region outside Cape Town is known as 'sleeping beauty of the Overberg'.

A – Hermanus B – Grabouw C – Villiersdorp

Answer: C – Villiersdorp

DID YOU KNOW
There are 92 known cases of nuclear bombs lost at sea. Also did you know There is no record of a person being killed by a meteorite but animals are occasionally hit.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Beat the High Gas Prices

Step1
Pinpoint the Lowest Gas Prices in your AreaSurf the web for the very best price for gas in your area. You may fill-up once a week or you may stop every other day for gas**. Even if the difference is a few cents, that will add up on a fill-up.

Step2
Plan your Errands CarefullyWhen you need to go shopping for food, clothing, personal items etc... plan your trip out before hand. Start with the store that is the farthest away and end with the one that is the closest to you. One stop shopping is better, shop at a mall or super store that offers two or more of your stores in one spot. If you watch your prices and use coupons, you will be able to exclude a extra stop, allowing you to save on gas.

Step3
Fill your Tank up on a MondayAfter the week-end, gas stations need to fill-up the tanks on Monday. The prices are at the lowest for the week. Also, if you fill-up before the temperature gets hot, you will get more. The gas expands when hot, fill-up in the cool morning air.

Step4
Saving Gas while DrivingYes, you can save on gas while you are driving, if you follow some easy tips. Avoid sudden stops; Avoid fast take-off from stop; Driving even 10 km faster will burn gas; Stay off the brakes, unless coming to a stop. Highway Driving; Stopping at a rest stop for gas is asking to pay a higher price right off the bat. Most exits have gas stations with-in a mile of the exit that will have lower prices on gas. Also, use your GPS to scan and locate the exits with gas stations close to the highway.

Step5
Save your Cash Have a Trusted Mechanic for General MaintenanceFinding a mechanic that you trust 100% with your vehicle is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. Let's be real, some mechanics are out to rip you off. Do your research first, Goggle your car maker and year, a lot of sites offer searches for the cars issues and problems. The more you know about your car and how it works the odds of you being ripped off are greatly reduced.

Also, ask to see your old parts before you leave the repair shop. And always get a receipt and any warranty in writing.

WE ALSO FEATURED:
An interview with Dr Carol Thomas who joined us to speak about a very important topic, PMS. I’ve now learnt that PMS is actually something serious, something that should not be taking lightly. If you as a women experience intense mood swings you should exactly go to your doctor. Having mood swings, feeling sulky it’s not a normal occurrence during a women’s monthly. Also the pains some women experience is healthy it means you fertile and it also doesn’t mean you incapable of doing things like work etc.

We played an interview with a member from Women In Finance.

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
The V & A in the V&A Waterfront means Victoria and Alfred. Who is Victoria and Alfred?

Answer: Queen Victoria and Alfred is her second son.

Since its origins in 1860, the Port of Cape Town has been the scene of excavations, reclamations, harbour construction programmes and land based developments.
By the time Prince Alfred* tipped the first load of stone into the sea to initiate construction of Cape Town's harbour, the trade routes to the East had transformed the city into a hive of seafront activity. The discovery of gold and diamonds in South Africa meant that the first section of harbour, the Alfred Basin, had to be added to and the Victoria Basin was built.

You want to have more of the good things in life and less of the not-so-good, right? Living in duality, you are bound to have both. Learn how to allow more of the best of everything to arrive right now.

Step1
BE CLEAR. Since you know what you don't want (that's easy) decide what you do want. Perhaps it's happiness, success, inner peace, financial freedom or a happy family life. Get clear about your vision for yourself and the future. Feel the emotions associated with these states.

Step2
GET FOCUSED. Now that you have decided how you want your life to be, focus on it. Catch yourself when you begin having negative thoughts and switch to positive ones. For example, if you notice you are starting to exhibit the symptoms of a cold rather than saying, "Oh no! I hope I don't get sick," focus on how healthy you are. Rest a bit more and take care of your physical and emotional needs. These symptoms may be a message for you to slow down and you don't have to buy into the whole concept of getting sick.

Step3
SET YOUR INTENTIONS. State to yourself and the universe exactly what it is you intend to create in your life. You may use statements such as, "I intend to be happy no matter what." or "I intend to have a peaceful life." You may also use these sentences as if you already have what you want since this can be even more effective.

Step4
LET GO. Let go of any thoughts, memories and experiences that no longer serve you. The past is over and unless you can learn from these situations there is no sense in holding on to them. When you hold on, you block the flow of new, more beneficial things to come in. Letting go can be as simple as focusing on the thought, taking a deep breath and blowing out. If you need to do this a few times, go ahead. You will notice you feel freer and lighter afterward.

Step5
WELCOME THE GOOD. Once you have decided what you want, set the intention and let go, you are ready to accept all the wonderful, amazing experiences you deserve to receive. "I am open to receive the good in life." Trust, have faith and know that you are a worthy child of God. You deserve to have all the best life has to offer!

WE ALSO FEATURED:
An interview with Tania Garde an organizer from Simply Organised. She joined us to let us know how to organise our homes, how to maintain it, how to start etc. Tania’s contact details are email: Tania@simplyorganised.co.za or call 073 227 03 14

We also spoke to Gary Ronald from the AA, Automobile Association of South Africa to joined to provide some helpful steps on what to do in a hijacking and/or how to be alert. Here are the tips:

Halt The Hijacking Mayhem

Firstly, it is imperative that we are constantly alert to the possibility that we could be the next victim. The AA would advise precautionary measures such as being familiar with your environment and keeping alert to anything around you that is out of the ordinary.

Varying your route so as to avoid habitual routes that can be easily traced is a good way of throwing potential attackers off. There are obvious protective mechanisms such as locking doors and stopping your car a few metres behind the car in front of you to make a quick getaway.
Leaving your windows open just a fraction may also prevent smash and grab incidents, but be sure that they are not open more than five centimetres. Where possible, avoid driving at night and in high crime or unfamiliar areas and have your key ready, but not visible, when approaching your vehicle.

In the event that you are hijacked, the following simple steps are recommended:

· Do not make any sudden or alarming moves. Remember that the hijackers are on edge and remaining calm is imperative. Keep your hands visible and move slowly.

· Do not resist your hijackers; remember that your personal safety takes precedence over valuables.

· Listen carefully to the demands of the hijackers, and try to concentrate on the possibility of identifying your hijackers at a later stage without blatantly staring at them.

· Tell the truth when asked any questions as hijackers may fly off the handle should they feel they are being lied to.

· If you are kidnapped, or have a child in the car, make this clear to your attackers. As calmly as possible, ask if you can fetch your child while making it clear that there is no threat from the child

Lastly we interviewed Ivan Bromfield from the City of Cape Town to speak
about Meningitis. The symptoms, if it’s a crisis in Cape Town etc.

How to Clean House Quick!
By
TBuffington

Most of us have at least once gotten that dreaded phone call: unexpected company. The company will be arriving soon and the house is a mess. What to do? To pick up the house quickly, not everything has to be done. However, by paying attention to a few important parts of the house, our guests will feel expected and welcome in a clean household.

Step1
The first thing noticeable when entering a home is probably the clutter laying around. By straightening up magazines and organizing mail it can make a huge difference in the way a sitting area appears. By having mail hidden in an office area or proper place and only a few magazines out, the area becomes much less cluttered. [this should take no more than five minutes]

Step2
The next thing noticeable is generally the floor and how clean it appears. If you have carpet, run the vacuum quickly over the area. If your floors are tile or linoleum, quickly sweep up dust. It doesn't have to be perfect, but this is mainly to make sure that bigger pieces of noticeable dirt are picked up. If there are sticky spots (such as in a kitchen) wet a wash cloth and scrub them individually. [this should also take about 5 minutes depending on the size of the room]

Step3
Next people will usually notice dust first. If they are sitting in a living room having drinks and set one on a coffee table that has a layer of dust on it, they will now feel unwelcome and dirty. If you have wood furniture Pledge is a good dust spray to use. However, anything will work for this quick job. Use a dust rag and go over everything. By removing dust your house will become fresh looking instantly.

Step4
You are almost done now! Another important aspect of cleaning is to pay attention to the bathroom. I don't know if there is ever an instance that a guest will arrive and not have to use the bathroom. Make sure the toilet is clean!! I usually pour bleach in the toilet and let it set to remove stains. I then usually use a washcloth and scrub the sink. If the shower is dirty, simply close the door or curtain so it is not seen. (This option changes if your guests are staying overnight and will be using the shower or bath, but for visitors, this is ok). Flush the toilet, and what is not removed by flushing can be wiped down.

Step5
Finally, fluff pillows on furniture and make them look fresh. If you have air freshener such as febreeze spray it to give your house a clean smell and get yourself ready for your guests! This should have all taken approximately 20-30 minutes. If you have guests arriving quicker than that, cut something out that doesn't need to be done. If your floor is clean, skip that step and pay more attention to something necessary.

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
What was the name of the very first newspaper in South Africa?

A – the voice B – the Star C – the Cape Gazette and African Advertiser

Answer:
C – the Cape Gazette and African Advertiser

The history of the South African newspaper industry is a colourful one dating back to the early 1800's. The first newspaper, the Cape Town Gazette and African Advertiser, was published in the Cape Colony in English and Dutch. It was, however, little more than a mouth piece for the government of that time and it was only in 1829 that the principle of press freedom was established in South Africa.

In a recent study, researchers found that with every 5° C increase in temperature, the risk of severe headaches jumps by nearly 8 percent. TIP OF THE DAY
How to Avoid Junk Food at Work – by Richard Ferri

We all fall victim to eating junk food at work; virtually no one is immune. We all fall victim to eating junk food at work; virtually no one is immune.

Step1
Manage your junk food intake or let it ruin your health. The choice is really yours! Totally avoiding eating any junk food is only for those of us with Superman-like strength and willpower. Sadly, if we totally abstain we may end up overeating and consuming way more junk food then we would have had in the first place. So at the beginning of the day, allocate a predetermined amount of junk food you will allow yourself. (Some days you may not feel like having any and cheer yourself on!)

Step2
Do not make a big deal or announce your plan to avoid/limit junk food. You will be setting yourself up for peer pressure, office jokes and endless monitoring by your coworkers of what you eat. You are doing this for YOU.

Step3
Look at your body in the mirror totally naked (I know this is hard for some of us, but is really essential). First list what you LIKE about your body and then what you feel needs improvement. Don't be shy--this list is for your eyes only. Write down the truth.

Step4
There are plenty of eHow articles on nutrition, building muscle and working out. Read them if you need to refresh your knowledge base. Determine what your goals and nutrition needs are and fit in a "junk food allowance." Remember, just because you give yourself permission to have some junk food, there are simply going to be days you will not want or crave any. Rejoice privately!

Step5
Keep a stash of healthy snacks in your office. Before you go get that cup of coffee or take a bathroom break, eat some raisins or other healthy snacks before finding the junk food glaring up at you.

Step6
Write down your junk food intake each day and the reason why you felt compelled to eat it. Sometimes it is as simple as the person who brought the cake is an excellent baker and you knew it would be wonderful! Other times, and most often, it will be stress, boredom or peer pressure. Now you have to figure out how to handle these differently.

Step7
Most importantly: don't beat yourself up if you had a bad day and ate a lot more junk food then you anticipated. It is "progress, not perfection" that should be your goal.

Tips for Hiring a Painting Contractor

Painting is one of the most popular home improvement projects you can undertake, but it can be more difficult than you might think. Whether you're planning an interior or exterior painting project, hiring a painting contractor will save a lot of time and energy in the long run. Before you hire a painting contractor, there are some things you should take into consideration:

* How long has the contractor been in business? There can be a high turnover rate in the painting industry. Be sure to hire someone who has been operating for at least two to three years.

* Are employees experienced painters? Make sure the company hires skilled workers. Ask what training or qualifications they have.

* Does the contractor have insurance? It is absolutely critical that they have the necessary insurance. A reputable, licensed painting contractor will have coverage. Remember, it protects him and any workers he may have on site, as well as you.

* What kind of preparation work does the painting contractor do? A cheaper job will skimp on the prep work to cut corners. A good contractor will take the time to do everything the way it should be done. The workmanship will show in the end, good or bad.

* Can they provide a list of references? Once you have the references in hand, call them.

* Can the painting contractor make recommendations on what materials will work best for your project? A professional keeps up-to-date on the latest products and techniques, makes suggestions for colors and finishes, and is knowledgeable about the latest trends. Experience counts.

* Make sure they put everything in writing. A professional provides customers with written contracts and specifications. * Will they offer a maintenance program? Some will, it's worth asking.

* How much do they charge? Getting the lowest price should not be your first consideration. You want to get someone with skill, experience, insurance, awareness of safety issues and good workers. That will not likely be the guy with the lowest bid. It doesn't need to be the highest bid either. Just be sure not to hire on price alone. Look at the whole picture. Painters operate on very tight profit margins. Some homeowners hire college students and are happy with the work. If the price seems too good to be true, however, it probably is.

How to Buy Quality Clothing For Less
Step1
Examine the seams of the fabric inside the clothing. Quality clothes will have a little excess of material at the sides. Clothes with very little excess of material will be more likely to have ripped out seams and show stretching.

Step2
Look to see if the patterns match when seems meet. High quality clothing will likely have seems that match almost perfectly.

Step3

Step4
Check material for inconstant color. Unless the material is faded for fashion, high quality clothing should have no off color spots.

How to Avoid Angry Road Rage
It's happened to the best of us. You get cut off in traffic and your blood boils. Don't let road rage ruin your daily commute. A few simple steps are the key to a more pleasant drive and a better day overall.

Step1It may sound easier than it is, but leaving early is the first step in avoiding road rage. If you give yourself ample time to get to your destination, you will be less likely to be effected by other people's bad driving.

Step2As soon as possible after leaving your house, do a good driving deed. Allow another driver into traffic or give a car space to join your lane if their blinker is on. Good deeds will be rewarded. This also helps set the tone for your own driving.

Step3Do as to others as you want them to do to you. The Golden Rule still applies behind the wheel. Use your blinker, allow plenty of room when changing lanes, drive no closer than 3 car lengths behind the car ahead of you, etc.

Step4Tune the radio to a station you enjoy listening to. If your atmosphere inside the car is more pleasing, you will be in a better mood also.

How to Be a Good Listener
Being a good listener can help you out in many ways. It can create and build friendships. It can help you advance in your career. It can also help you become a better parent. The bottom line is you can learn more from listening then you can from speaking.

Step1The first thing you have to do is be attentive. Make eye contact with the person who is speaking to you. Look like you are interested in what they have to say. In fact don't just try to look like you are interested, be interested.

Step2Don't interrupt. Even if the speaker pauses. Don't take that as an opportunity to put your 2 cents in. When the speaker pauses they are generally gathering their thoughts. It would be rude to break their concentration. The only time to give advice is when asked for it.

Step3Be patient. What the person is telling you is important to them. Even if it bores you, be a good friend and stay interested.

Step4Most people, when listening will be thinking of their response in their mind and won't even hear what is being said to them. You must break this habit and make it a point to clear your mind and absorb what is being spoken to you.
