Steven Spielberg, a three-time Academy Award winning director, remains one of the most commercially successful filmmakers in the history of US cinema. Spielberg began his career directing for television, but his major success came when he began directing movies. His 1975 film, Jaws, set a domestic box office record and made him a household name. Spielberg later surpassed this record with the films E.T. and Jurassic Park.

How to Improve a Hated Job
Let's face it. The reasons we hate jobs are they don't pay enough, the people drive you crazy, it's boring, you aren't being promoted, and a whole laundry list of other reasons. We usually know why we hate the job, but how do we overcome it? Here are a few ways to improve a hated job.
1. Step 1
Determine why you hate your job. Is it the co-worker who sits next to you or is it your boss who won't give you a raise? Know why you hate your job.
2. Step 2
Talk with the decision maker about how to improve your job. Some companies have large human resource departments whose job it is to fit the right candidate with the right job. Maybe you are in the wrong area and need to ask for a transfer. HR can be your best friend. They can keep an eye open for new opportunities and if you know that there is light at the end of the tunnel it can help you get through the day.
3. Step 3
Take it one day at a time. Don't think that this terrible job might be all there is for you in life. Try to stay upbeat and focus on getting through the day and the week.
4. Step 4
Bring food to work. People are usually more pleasant to work with if their bellies are full. Bake some brownies or bring bagels and cream cheese in.
5. Step 5
Talk with the decision makers about adding a bonus program. Reward systems improve the workplace. Start an employee of the week program or ask HR to award gift cards for outstanding work.
6. Step 6
Find out if there are any educational assistance or job training opportunities you can take advantage of. This could get you out of the same day to day rut and workplace politics.
7. Step 7
Keep your head up. Keep working hard and don't cut corners. Keep your integrity and you will be rewarded.

Leptin, a hormone produced by fat cells that helps regulate appetite, has long been touted as a possible treatment for obesity. Now, researchers believe that it may also reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. A 12-year study of 200 volunteers found that those with the lowest levels of the hormone were more likely to develop the disease than those with the highest levels. Furthermore, research on mice found that those that received doses of leptin were more adept at navigating a maze.

How to Stay Awake at Work in 5 Steps
If can be difficult to stay awake at work—especially if your job is grueling and painfully slow. Since you probably can’t change the amount of time you have to work, or how boring your job may be, you need to find ways to stay awake. While I can’t make your job any more exciting, these steps will help you stay awake at work.
1. Step 1
Avoid sugar and caffeine. Don’t rely on sugar or caffeine to stay awake at work. These are nice stimulants but after a few minutes will wear off and leave you lower than where you started. Instead, eat healthy foods to give you energy and keep you working. Eating healthy foods and avoiding sugar and caffeine will help you stay awake at work.
2. Step 2
Listen to Music. If you avoid sugar and caffeine and still struggle to stay awake at work, ask your boss if you can listen to music at work. Listening to music you like can help you stay awake at work. Loud upbeat music can do a world of good keeping your eyes open in the workplace.
3. Step 3
Don’t let yourself get too comfortable. You’re not going to stay awake at work if you’re reclined in a nice soft warm chair. So sit in an odd position that keeps you awake and alert. Don’t set your arms on the desk and forget about them, keep your body moving. If you can, get up and walk around every few minutes. Stay awake at work by keeping your body active.
4. Step 4
Open a window. One of the best ways to stay awake at work is to open up a window in the office (if you can). Your body has an internal clock that is programmed to get drowsy in dim lighting—inside the office. If you can’t crack open a window, look at your computer screen or another bright light. The bright light will trigger your brain to stay alert and help you stay awake at work.
5. Step 5
Use Sweet scents. If you find it hard to stay awake at work, try sniffing something potent. Bring a small candle or something to work with you and when you begin to fall asleep take a whiff. Mint, pine, coffee, and other strong scents will help you stay awake at work. Plug something into the wall, or bring mint in a bag and give it a whiff when it gets tough to stay awake at work.

Today's show discussed protective clothing in the summer time and the hosting of SA's prestigious dancesport competition for 2009

Underwater footage taken between 1999 and 2008 shows octopuses in the waters off the coast of Indonesia scooping up coconut shells and crawling inside them for protection. The videos show that when an octopus had only one shell half, it would turn it over and hide underneath. However, if it recovered two halves, it would reassemble them to mimic the form of the original, closed coconut and conceal itself between the shell sections. The octopuses were also recorded scooping up the shells and carrying them for later use. Scientists say this is the first evidence of tool use among the marine creatures.

How to Deal with a Coworker that Hates You
So there you are just minding your own business—and then you notice one of your coworkers doesn’t seem to like you very much. It can be difficult to keep professional work relations with a coworker that hates you. Try as you might, it can be difficult to convince a coworker you’re really not that bad. These steps will help you deal with a coworker that hates you.
Step 1
Find out why your coworker is mad at you. If you want to deal with a coworker that hates you, the first step is to find out why they don’t like you. Asking your coworker why they hate you may not be the best approach to take. Try to notice what things your coworker does and doesn’t like. Talk to other coworkers and see if they have any input. While you are dealing with the difficult coworker, don’t contribute to the problem. Try to stay out of their way, and just get your own work done.
Step 2
Be nice to your coworker. While you are trying to find out what your coworker dislikes about you, try to be as polite as possible. To deal with a coworker that hates you, go out of your way to be extra nice. Bring your coworker cookies, or buy them a small gift card somewhere. Find ways to work together, and help your coworker out whenever you can. While you may not be able to stop your coworker from disliking you, you can build professional working relationships by working together.
Step 3
Talk to your coworker. If you can’t get anywhere by working with your coworker and being nice to him/her, try talking to your coworker. To deal with a coworker that hates you, pull them aside and ask for a few minutes to talk. Mention a few things you like about that coworker and ease into the situation. After you have mentioned a few things you admire about your coworker, proceed to talk about those things that are bothering you. Deal with a coworker that hates you by being polite and asking what you can do to change. Ask them those things you might do to build a good work relationship. Listen carefully and try to do those things they tell you.
Step 4
Talk to a manager. If you’re coworker isn’t very agreeable and talking doesn’t get you very far, try talking to a supervisor or a manager. Tell them about how you tried to deal with your coworker and the steps you have taken. If you tell your manager about the actions you have taken, it should show your initiative and add a good amount of credibility to your story. Demonstrate to your manager how the relationship with your coworker is hurting work performance. Your impressive story should urge your manager to take action, once they realize the coworker is hurting your job performance. Ask the manager to deal with the coworker that hates you.

Hats, umbrellas, cotton shirts. Can these really protect you from the sun? Brush up on the facts about protective clothing with these frequently asked questions.
Q: What kinds of clothing best protect my skin from UV rays?
A: Clothing that covers your skin protects against the sun's UV rays. Loose-fitting long-sleeved shirts and long pants made from tightly woven fabric offer the best protection. A wet T-shirt offers you much less UV protection than does a dry one.

If wearing this type of clothing isn't practical, at least try to wear a t-shirt or a beach cover-up. Keep in mind, however, that a typical t-shirt actually has an SPF rating substantially lower than the recommended SPF 15, so double-up on protection by using sunscreen with at least SPF 15 (and UVA and UVB protection) and staying in the shade when you can.
Q: Does protective clothing have to be a certain colour?

A: Wearing clothing made of tightly-woven fabric is best for protecting your skin, regardless of the colour. Darker colours, though, may offer more protection than lighter colours.
Q: It gets so hot here in the summer, there's no way I could be comfortable in long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. So, what else can I do to protect my skin?

A: Protecting yourself from the sun's UV rays doesn't have to be a major chore; it's just a matter of knowing your options and using them. Wearing a dry T-shirt is a good start, but it is not enough if you are going to be outside for more than a few minutes.
If you can't wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt, you can boost your protection by seeking shade whenever possible and by always wearing sunscreen with at least SPF 15.
Q: Will a hat help protect my skin? Are there recommended styles for the best protection?

A: Hats can help shield your skin from the sun's UV rays. Choose a hat that provides shade for all of your head and neck. For the most protection, wear a hat with a brim all the way around that shades your face, ears, and the back of your neck.
If you choose to wear a baseball cap, you should also protect your ears and the back of your neck by wearing clothing that covers those areas, using sunscreen with at least SPF 15, or by staying in the shade.
Q: For the best protection, what material should I look for in a hat?

A: A tightly woven fabric, such as canvas, works best to protect your skin from UV rays. When possible, avoid straw hats with holes that let sunlight through.
Q: Does the colour of my hat matter?

A: The amount of shade offered by a particular hat appears to be its most important prevention characteristic. If a darker hat is an option, though, it may offer even more UV protection.
Q: Are sunglasses an important part of my sun protection plan?

A: Yes. Sunglasses protect your eyes from UV rays and reduce the risk of cataracts. They also protect the tender skin around your eyes from sun exposure.
Q: What type of sunglasses best protects my eyes from UV rays?

A: Sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB rays offer the best protection. Wrap-around sunglasses work best because they block UV rays from sneaking in from the side.
Q: Is there any particular time I should try to stay in the shade?

A: The sun's UV rays are strongest and do the most damage during midday, so it's best to avoid direct exposure between 10:00am and 3:00pm. You can reduce your risk of skin damage and skin cancer by seeking shade under an umbrella, tree, or other shelter before you need relief from the sun.
Q: I work outdoors all summer and can't stay in the shade. What can I do to protect my skin?

A: If you can't avoid the sun, you can protect your skin by wearing a wide-brimmed hat, wraparound sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB rays, long-sleeved shirt, and long pants. You can also wear a sunscreen and lipscreen with at least SPF 15 and UVA and UVB protection and reapply according to the manufacturer's directions. When you can, take your breaks and your lunch in the shade.
Q: If I stay in the shade, should I still use sunscreen and wear a hat?

A: UV rays can reflect off virtually any surface (including sand, snow and concrete) and can reach you in the shade. Your best bet to protect your skin and lips is to use sunscreen or wear protective clothing when you're outside - even when you're in the shade.
Lastly I was joined by Lily Ford from the Federation of Dancesport South Africa. FEDANSA is hosting the prestigious SA Dancesport Competition 2009 the only officially recognised structure of Dancesport in SA, the Championships will showcase national dance at its best.

Over 500 couples entered into the juvenile and adult sections of the competition. “Participants are hard at work practising to bring their best to the competition,” says Convenor Lily Ford. Dancers from all walks of life will be judged by an international panel of adjudicators. Winners of “Die Laaste Wals” and Supadance SA will also be participating in this prestigious event.

An Italian man who lost his left forearm in an automobile accident was successfully connected to a robotic hand that was controlled by his mind and which allowed him to feel sensations in the artificial limb. The Italian man had electrodes implanted in the nerves of what remained of his left arm. Over time, he learned to wiggle the robotic fingers independently, make a fist, grab objects, and make other movements. Experts say this experiment is a significant step forward in the development of a viable interface between the human nervous system and prosthetic limbs.

How to Stay Positive when You Know Your Life Sucks
1. As the first law of Buddihsm states: Life is difficult. The fallacious thought is that we can change that. In accepting that life indeed is difficult, we begin to make it less painful...not less difficult. Accept that life is full of difficulty and choose the religion, belief system, or substance to ingest to decrease the pain; that is after all what the rest of us do. Life DOES suck, deal with it.
2. # Stop feeling sorry for yourself. People who go around saying that life sucks are really wanting attention hoping somebody will care enough to actually want to help. Yes, life can be difficult and cruel and unfair, but every time you're feeling sorry for yourself , consider how fortunate you really are and what you DO have. Show me the person who complains about not having name brand sneakers or designer shoes and I'll show you the person with no feet! Every day above ground really is a good day. So stop feeling sorry for yourself, and take one step forward. Then another. Then another. Then another.
3. Ground Yourself. The most common reason why people think their lives suck is that they aren't living their own lives. Look deeply into whether you are acting to please others - to please family, friends, and society. Realize that you need to get to know who you are and what your needs are, and make the choices to follow your own path. To know these things, a path of meditation and inner exploration is invaluable.
4. Look on the inside. What are some qualities you have that you like about yourself? Are you funny? Are you intelligent? Are you sincere? Are you generous? What do you have pride in? Try focusing on the positive things in your life. You may be having a positive influence on others even when you think you're useless.
5. Prove those negative thoughts wrong. When you find yourself in a bad mood, you could think of the negative things such as, "I'm dumb and annoying", "I'm better off dead", "I'm ugly, I wish I looked different", etc. Even though it's not true. Change your mind. Look for your good features, think about the ones that you know love you, look on your greater side. Realize that nobody's life is easy and that there will always be ups and downs, and moments of low self esteem. Don't automatically assume that nobody cares. Every person matters to someone. You're alive for a reason.
6. Appreciate what you see. Look in the mirror. Find some beautiful things about yourself.... Do you have nice skin? nice nails? beautiful eyes? full lips? Find stuff that appeals to you. When you can't change something, change your attitude towards it!
7. It's all how you look at it. Jealous of the people with 'amazing' lives? They chose to be that way! Remember, there are people living in mansions who are miserable and people living on the street who are perfectly happy. It's all on how you look at it.
8. Determine how your life could be better. What can you do to make your life better? What do you desire to do? How do you want to feel? Make a few reachable goals and your own strategies. The first step is usually the hardest - getting help or admitting you need it.
9. Get motivated. What motivates you? What gives you energy to go on everyday? Music? Love? Family? A 1km run? God/Allah? Your attitude? Your pet? Friends? School? Give yourself a boost by focusing on what is important to you personally.
10. Remember that some things can pass with time. There will be a tomorrow. There will be a next week. There will be a next month and perhaps by then, things will have changed for the better.
11. Reminisce. Whenever you feel like the future is 'hopeless', think about happy memories. It will help make you feel better and remind you that in the future, there will be good things, too. Think about all the good things you've experienced, felt, and achieved, and consider how many more could things could be waiting ahead. There will be many great moments in your life - don't let a few obstacles get in the way.
12. Don't stop yourself from feeling the joy. It's okay to step back once in awhile and just enjoy the moment. Even in tough situations - it's important to smile and laugh here and there. Don't restrict yourself from doing things you love because they're "not important" or because you think you'll be criticized for doing them. Let yourself enjoy life even if you're not at the best place you could be. You only live once - make the best of it.
13. Develop a gratitude journal. It's pretty simple. At the end of every day, write down five things that have made you happy or appreciative that day -- not necessarily big things, even small ones count. For example: nice weather, being praised by my boss for getting an urgent errand done, my playful dog, kids and hubby kissing me goodbye before they went to school/work, a hilarious joke a mate shared, etc.
14. If you feel persistently sad, unmotivated, anxious, hopeless or fearful, seek professional help. You may be suffering from a mood disorder or nutritional deficit which could be contributing to your situation. Remember there is always somebody there who wants to help you. You are valuable!

Hello to all I hope you doing well, if not, it’s completely acceptable after all it is the end of the year and 23 more days to Christmas and for most of you, vacation time. Check out what happened on today’s show and don’t forget to interact with us drop us a comment ;)

Australian scientists believe kangaroos may hold the key to developing an effective treatment that will prevent skin cancer. Researchers are investigating a DNA repair enzyme found in kangaroos as well as many other organisms that is able to repair DNA damage linked to many skin cancers. They hope that by using this enzyme as a model, they will be able to develop a "dream cream" or other treatment that can repair ultraviolet damage done to human skin by sun exposure.

How to Overcome Serious Regrets
There is no such thing as a life without any regrets. However, regrets can become either burdens that interfere with your present happiness and restrict your future, or motivation to move forward. If you find yourself overcome by regrets, here are some steps that should help you integrate them.
1. Determine what your regret really is. Do you regret something you did or something you didn't do? Something someone else did or did not do? A circumstance beyond your control? It is important to step back from the feelings of regret and identify exactly what the regret is.
2. Ask for forgiveness and make amends. Apologize for any harm you may have caused others, it does not kill to ask for forgiveness so give it a go! Forgive yourself. Forgiving others will make you happier. Be compassionate toward everyone involved including yourself.
3. Accept the circumstances. Avoid blaming others but rather take responsibility for anything that you could have better handled.
4. Deal with toxic relationships. Sometimes other people cause us to do things that leave us with serious regrets. Do you have a toxic relationship that needs to be addressed or severed?
5. Grieve for your regrets. When we feel regret, we re-live guilt, sadness or anger over and over again. Allowing yourself to experience these feelings fully with the intention of moving forward can help you stop revisiting them.
6. Recognize what you have learned or gained. When you find yourself thinking of the regret, turn your thoughts to the things you have learned and the opportunities that are now yours - even if they are not what you would have preferred. There is always a lesson even in pain and sadness. Look for the lesson and focus on it instead of what might have been.
7. Write out a plan or agreement for yourself that identifies how you could avoid having this sort of regret in the future.

Zane Imam and Asanda Fanti. Zane is from an organisation called rainbow UCT ( and Asanda from the Triangle project ( both based in Cape Town. They joined me to discuss society’s sentiments towards gays and lesbians in 2009. I wanted to know whether attitudes have changed, are people well informed or not and especially since there are still hate crimes against lesbians in South Africa. Fortunately both Zane and Asanda noticed that people are more accepting, not 100% but there is a change. For both Zane and Asanda their biggest challenge is getting their family to accept their sexuality they come from strict religious and traditional backgrounds which in most cases renders a problem. However they both want all gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders to love who they are despite the difficulties and not deny their own freedom and right to life.
