In our engaging discussion, Mitchell provided us with a comprehensive overview of the association's activities, shed light on the surging interest in basketball across South Africa, and unveiled exciting upcoming projects. Notably, we delved into the participation of the under-16 Western Cape basketball team in the prestigious tournament held in Durban.</p><p style="--tw-border-spacing-x: 0; --tw-border-spacing-y: 0; --tw-ring-color: rgba(69,89,164,.5); --tw-ring-offset-color: #fff; --tw-ring-offset-shadow: 0 0 transparent; --tw-ring-offset-width: 0px; --tw-ring-shadow: 0 0 transparent; --tw-rotate: 0; --tw-scale-x: 1; --tw-scale-y: 1; --tw-scroll-snap-strictness: proximity; --tw-shadow-colored: 0 0 transparent; --tw-shadow: 0 0 transparent; --tw-skew-x: 0; --tw-skew-y: 0; --tw-translate-x: 0; --tw-translate-y: 0; background-color: white; border: 0px solid rgb(227, 227, 227); box-sizing: border-box; color: #0d0d0d; font-family: Söhne, ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, "Segoe UI", Roboto, Ubuntu, Cantarell, "Noto Sans", sans-serif, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol", "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; margin: 1.25em 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve;">At the heart of our conversation was the Western Cape Basketball Association (WCBA), an organization spearheaded by Jason Mitchell with the vision of fostering the growth and development of basketball within the Western Cape region. Mitchell outlined the core programs offered by WCBA, highlighting their focus on officiating and coaching. Through provincial basketball officiating clinics and tailored coaching programs, WCBA endeavors to equip both officials and coaches with the necessary skills and knowledge to elevate the standard of basketball in the region.</p><p style="--tw-border-spacing-x: 0; --tw-border-spacing-y: 0; --tw-ring-color: rgba(69,89,164,.5); --tw-ring-offset-color: #fff; --tw-ring-offset-shadow: 0 0 transparent; --tw-ring-offset-width: 0px; --tw-ring-shadow: 0 0 transparent; --tw-rotate: 0; --tw-scale-x: 1; --tw-scale-y: 1; --tw-scroll-snap-strictness: proximity; --tw-shadow-colored: 0 0 transparent; --tw-shadow: 0 0 transparent; --tw-skew-x: 0; --tw-skew-y: 0; --tw-translate-x: 0; --tw-translate-y: 0; background-color: white; border: 0px solid rgb(227, 227, 227); box-sizing: border-box; color: #0d0d0d; font-family: Söhne, ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, "Segoe UI", Roboto, Ubuntu, Cantarell, "Noto Sans", sans-serif, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol", "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; margin: 1.25em 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDLgtrrTRnyRcAsMat49uWVpGMqvOXgEEXQ600kbKu1ysd7VEKPKZXaYg3IuOMhdyL_-i6jyu6I1WqiS3wcQZgX44sTZHrQKOpdaBHW5qpeijPx8LRNUlF1W4SErIJp9LlhY8AXCbvGT-TedA1gBwa-pnuusDqbzzkENo_hOkX6wQgAopUQqOkOg/s1472/photo%20basket.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1472" data-original-width="828" height="433" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDLgtrrTRnyRcAsMat49uWVpGMqvOXgEEXQ600kbKu1ysd7VEKPKZXaYg3IuOMhdyL_-i6jyu6I1WqiS3wcQZgX44sTZHrQKOpdaBHW5qpeijPx8LRNUlF1W4SErIJp9LlhY8AXCbvGT-TedA1gBwa-pnuusDqbzzkENo_hOkX6wQgAopUQqOkOg/w243-h433/photo%20basket.jpg" width="243" /></a></div><br /><br /><br /><p></p><p style="--tw-border-spacing-x: 0; --tw-border-spacing-y: 0; --tw-ring-color: rgba(69,89,164,.5); --tw-ring-offset-color: #fff; --tw-ring-offset-shadow: 0 0 transparent; --tw-ring-offset-width: 0px; --tw-ring-shadow: 0 0 transparent; --tw-rotate: 0; --tw-scale-x: 1; --tw-scale-y: 1; --tw-scroll-snap-strictness: proximity; --tw-shadow-colored: 0 0 transparent; --tw-shadow: 0 0 transparent; --tw-skew-x: 0; --tw-skew-y: 0; --tw-translate-x: 0; --tw-translate-y: 0; background-color: white; border: 0px solid rgb(227, 227, 227); box-sizing: border-box; color: #0d0d0d; font-family: Söhne, ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, "Segoe UI", Roboto, Ubuntu, Cantarell, "Noto Sans", sans-serif, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol", "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; margin: 1.25em 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve;">One of the most compelling aspects of our dialogue with Mitchell was the escalating interest in basketball throughout South Africa. This gathering serves as a platform for stakeholders and enthusiasts to convene, collaborate, and strategize on ways to further propel the sport's growth within the region. Additionally, WCBA continues to expand its outreach efforts, forging partnerships and initiatives aimed at broadening access to basketball and fostering community engagement.</p><p style="--tw-border-spacing-x: 0; --tw-border-spacing-y: 0; --tw-ring-color: rgba(69,89,164,.5); --tw-ring-offset-color: #fff; --tw-ring-offset-shadow: 0 0 transparent; --tw-ring-offset-width: 0px; --tw-ring-shadow: 0 0 transparent; --tw-rotate: 0; --tw-scale-x: 1; --tw-scale-y: 1; --tw-scroll-snap-strictness: proximity; --tw-shadow-colored: 0 0 transparent; --tw-shadow: 0 0 transparent; --tw-skew-x: 0; --tw-skew-y: 0; --tw-translate-x: 0; --tw-translate-y: 0; background-color: white; border: 0px solid rgb(227, 227, 227); box-sizing: border-box; color: #0d0d0d; font-family: Söhne, ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, "Segoe UI", Roboto, Ubuntu, Cantarell, "Noto Sans", sans-serif, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol", "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; margin: 1.25em 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Our discussion with Jason Mitchell offered a comprehensive glimpse into the multifaceted landscape of basketball within South Africa, particularly within the Western Cape. The Mamelani Project helps youth by providing support with food vouchers, mentorship, and much more. </div><p>We talked about Lewis' personal story of going from being helped by the Mamelani Project to becoming an intern, and now working in a full-time position at the organization. These two impressive individuals have been involved in the Mamelani Project for a long time, and have seen it go through many different phases. During COVID-19, the project adapted to do more community support virtually. The Mamelani Project turned 20 years old last year, and looking ahead they want to continue to get more people involved in their projects.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhQRUa8s5CPBmGji8uaJpeTW3rYXQjweueR5bGb8wjDHPKs0PS_UjaX5oEKDevDRs5FbwGtNvUoPCAaNNeSBdi_-DQlIU3oMx9cqpoKVX2-xMGuLvRdMjuaAyI2ozRHJfXk7pmzUvyIEqezD7qlJ_zUNyPL7nyegZp7aWBT_4AwiVJQeeNbMtd-pQ" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhQRUa8s5CPBmGji8uaJpeTW3rYXQjweueR5bGb8wjDHPKs0PS_UjaX5oEKDevDRs5FbwGtNvUoPCAaNNeSBdi_-DQlIU3oMx9cqpoKVX2-xMGuLvRdMjuaAyI2ozRHJfXk7pmzUvyIEqezD7qlJ_zUNyPL7nyegZp7aWBT_4AwiVJQeeNbMtd-pQ" width="180" /></a></div><p></p><p>To learn more about how to get involved you can look at their website here: <a href="https://mamelani.org.za">https://mamelani.org.za</a>. people in the country were left unemployed, which created a huge rate of hunger
in the country. This issue motivated them to create their Messy Aid project.<o:p></o:p></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvb45YvKYUXmu2nNpG6xntLhXaf8NjCGhLtBHhYJB_Bbzpj6XJ7sPrYJ3ZoSeq7b_pyaSzk6SMriWsZdxktB2zzyIWK2SV7VTII_H8BbXlo7rJqGCJEoe7wU8sQIkyc5_-sgHFM_4sIkQTw_sTcblZVEPIpGvVG2vhPAxoCy7lM82v7qNIB0K_hQ/s1600/mdzananda.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="1600" height="120" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvb45YvKYUXmu2nNpG6xntLhXaf8NjCGhLtBHhYJB_Bbzpj6XJ7sPrYJ3ZoSeq7b_pyaSzk6SMriWsZdxktB2zzyIWK2SV7VTII_H8BbXlo7rJqGCJEoe7wU8sQIkyc5_-sgHFM_4sIkQTw_sTcblZVEPIpGvVG2vhPAxoCy7lM82v7qNIB0K_hQ/s320/mdzananda.png" width="320" /></a></div><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">Some economies are predicting that
there is a possibility of a huge inflation to come and have a negative impact in
the country. This could lead the things in the country to be expensive and majority
of the people not being able to afford essential things. The project started
with Kay Lorentz and her trainer in 2020 when she was attending a Vulnerable
Kids Training program, and in her networking, She and her team realised that in
the state the country was in, hunger was concerning and how it could kill many,
especially children. They decided as a team to look for funding to start their
project. </span><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">Kay say when they
looking for a community to feed, they first find the “heroes” of that community,
people that want to be effective in their community but do not know where to
begin. After finding those heroes, they get information from them, about their
community and which areas need food.</span> </p><p><br /></p><p>Contact details: <a data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.mdzananda.co.za&source=gmail&ust=1687428957771000&usg=AOvVaw1YHEciGgouM5aQZrvioooP" href="http://www.mdzananda.co.za/" style="background-color: white; color: #1155cc; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;" target="_blank"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="color: windowtext; text-decoration-line: none;">www.mdzananda.co.za</span></a></p><p>Presenter/ Producer: Mkuseli Khusi Veto </p><p>Written by: Bamba Damane </p>Morning Cruisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18175748865757899093noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31121340.post-27251824300555279602023-04-06T16:32:00.001+02:002023-04-06T16:32:11.218+02:00 Cape Town Society for the Blind is stepping up for the blind in our city<br /><br /><p><br /></p><span id="docs-internal-guid-bb58535b-7fff-1b86-c5c2-5a51662fcf11"><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNTCby_IOZW40FadfSs3UnjCKEjj86ladV-TT420Vuf6tcAdo29iRVPcTWgMQ0BU5l0rHborFsKpdaeWVCYU7r4_rElq-Zz4281tBpGUezPJBEM3GLqpUPbS2XIbWXBYei6MN_q5hJvXver-nq2Wn3nxWWwrpYceoXcSI6o-WVtljsDzoz1n0/s1080/CTSB.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNTCby_IOZW40FadfSs3UnjCKEjj86ladV-TT420Vuf6tcAdo29iRVPcTWgMQ0BU5l0rHborFsKpdaeWVCYU7r4_rElq-Zz4281tBpGUezPJBEM3GLqpUPbS2XIbWXBYei6MN_q5hJvXver-nq2Wn3nxWWwrpYceoXcSI6o-WVtljsDzoz1n0/s320/CTSB.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">CTSB explained its views and standpoints on Morning Cruise</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span><p></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Sergil January, member of the Cape Town Society for the blind, explained on Morning Cruise how important it is to have the right infrastructure for the blind and visually impaired. It is not easy to get around in the Captonian traffic as it is, but it is even harder if you are blind or visually impaired. </span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The Cape Town Society for the Blind organizes a lot of initiatives to help blind and visually impaired people in their skills. At their centre you can follow courses to learn braille, learn how to work with a computer, how to do groceries, how to cross the street, and many more. In this way blind and visually impaired people can get around more easily and gain back their independence. </span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Currently a lot of blind and visually impaired people are facing challenges in the Capetonian Traffic. Due to loadshedding a lot of the traffic light indicators for the blind stop working. This makes it very dangerous for blind and visually impaired people to cross the road. Another big obstacle for them are the motorcyclist, they tend not to obey the traffic rules which adds another layer of difficulty for the blind and visually impaired. </span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">According to Sergil January an easy solution could be provided by the local authorities. Simply replacing the existing indicators by solar powered ones so they can load during the day and keep on working during load shedding.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">In addition to that Sergil added that a little bit of help goes a long way.
