TIP OF THE DAY
How to Be a Good Listener
Being a good listener can help you out in many ways. It can create and build friendships. It can help you advance in your career. It can also help you become a better parent. The bottom line is you can learn more from listening then you can from speaking.

Step1The first thing you have to do is be attentive. Make eye contact with the person who is speaking to you. Look like you are interested in what they have to say. In fact don't just try to look like you are interested, be interested.

Step2Don't interrupt. Even if the speaker pauses. Don't take that as an opportunity to put your 2 cents in. When the speaker pauses they are generally gathering their thoughts. It would be rude to break their concentration. The only time to give advice is when asked for it.

Step3Be patient. What the person is telling you is important to them. Even if it bores you, be a good friend and stay interested.

Step4Most people, when listening will be thinking of their response in their mind and won't even hear what is being said to them. You must break this habit and make it a point to clear your mind and absorb what is being spoken to you.

Step5Eliminate any distractions like cell phones as one example. Remember to keep eye contact and don't get distracted by what is going on around you. Give the speaker 100% of your attention.
WE ALSO FEATURED:

An interview Colleen Larsen from Women in Finance. Women in Finance is a non-profit organisation promoting women within business, and assisting in the empowerment of women and all small businesses particularly, but not exclusively with regards to financial literacy and finances.

Women in Finance, while being a women-centered organisation, understands the value which men have contributed to the industry, and therefore promotes a more gender balanced approach in their interventions.
