COMMUNITY BUZZ THURSDAY
By Denisia Adams

Hello there. Are You Ready Are You Steady One Day One Important Day …it’s… Worker’s Day/May Day. Well at least tomorrow but it’s the eve of workers day, can’t wait. I love APRIL. I’m going to name my child April.

Anyway today on the Morning Cruise was Community Buzz Thursday:

WORD(s) OF THE DAY
Pedantic:
excessively concerned with minor detail or with displaying technical.

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
What S.A cricketer hit six sixes in one over in the 2007 ICC cricket world cup.
A – J.P Duminy B – Jonty Rhodes C – Herschelle Gibbs

Answer: C – Herschelle Gibbs

DID YOU KNOW
Cows don't have upper front teeth: Although a cow has no upper front teeth, it grazes up to 8 hours a day, taking in about 45 kg (100 lb) of feed and the equivalent of a bath tub full of water. A healthy cow gives about 200,000 glasses of milk in her lifetime.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Keep a Secret
Keeping a secret can be difficult, and when it is a juicy secret it might be near impossible. It takes a great deal of willpower and determination, not to want to tell someone what you just heard. If you feel that you do not have the willpower necessary, then do not put yourself in the position of even hearing a secret.

1. Keep your motivator in mind. There are lots of reasons to keep something a secret. Maybe it would be embarrassing, for you or someone else. Maybe you'll ruin a surprise. Maybe you promised to someone that you wouldn't. Just keep this in mind when you're tempted to let the cat out of the bag. People look up to and trust you when you keep secrets, since it's a very difficult thing to do. I trust you with my secret, so please don't tell anyone!

2. Ask how long you need to keep this secret. Is it something simple, like a present or a surprise party, or something you intend to take to the grave? This will give you more of a perspective of the secret you are keeping as well as help you analyze the lengths you are willing to go to to keep it.

3. Force yourself to just not tell! You have to keep this secret because no one else is supposed to know about it. The most effective way of keeping something from spreading around is to keep it to yourself. People can't betray a secret they don't know.

4. Never drop any hints that you have a secret. Stay away from saying "I know something you don't know" in a singsong voice. A lot of people tend to go after forbidden fruit. They may attempt to pry the secret out of you, and it's very likely that you can cave in.

5. Understand that if someone becomes aware of your secrets existence, stay away from "20 Questions." You still technically told if a person decodes a secret from a series of yes and nos. Answer any questions that people ask calmly, revealing as little as you possibly can.

6. Never bring up the topic of or involving the secret if you can help it. If you have no choice but to discuss something involving it, graze the surface in conversation so as not to look evasive or suspicious. Then gracefully change the subject. Keep your head high and confident like you don't know anything.

7. Remain defensive. Just calmly refuse to tell the secret. Some people will respect this, but others may bug you further. Stand your ground if this is the case. Don't let anything slip and don't back down.

8. Lie, if necessary, but keep it as a last resort. Lies can complicate things and cause a lot of trouble in the future. However, it can be very effective, especially if you would go through any lengths to keep this secret under wraps. Or, tell everyone you know, but pretend you are kidding.

9. Tell a stuffed animal the secret. It's not exactly telling!

10. Say the secret over and over again to yourself. This might do the trick!

11. Change the topic when the topic is what the secret is about.

12. Pretend you don't know any secrets.

13. If the person is unreliable, try not to go near them without obviously avoiding them.

14. If it is an embarrassing topic, in your mind's eye play it over and over again and "edit, cut and clip" until it's not embarrassing anymore. This helped me.

15. Ask the person if there is someone you are allowed to tell. If it's your secret, you can tell your best friend

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
There’s a area in the Cape called Helderberg. What does Helderberg mean?

Answer: clear water
Helderberg meaning “clear water” is one of the most visually dramatic areas in the Cape, with the Hottentots Holland and Helderberg Mountain ranges creating a powerful backdrop against which the valley descends into vineyards and on to a coastline swept with warm waters and effortlessly white, sandy beaches.

Helderberg includes the towns of Somerset West, Strand, Gordon's Bay, Lwandle, Macassar and Sir Lowry's Pass

DID YOU KNOW (www.didyouknow.org)
The surface of hot water freezes faster than cold water but the rest of the water will remain liquid longer than in a cold sample. Also did you know Since space is essentially empty it cannot carry sound. Therefor there is no sound in space, at least not the sort of sound that we are used to.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Gain Respect After a Major Setback

We all have moments where we wish we had done something differently, and sometimes those moments have consequences. However, some of the best blessings or moments of achievement come after failure or disappointment. A setback can be a valuable learning experience. Here are some steps to help you gain respect after a major setback.

Step1 Define the setback. Are all areas of your life affected as a result of the setback, or is the issue related to work, personal or family?

Step2 Accept your responsibility for the setback. People are not perfect, and sometimes we fall short of others' and our own expectations.

Step3 Seek the advise or counsel from a mentor or someone you respect for guidance. Fully disclose the factors that contributed to the setback, and be open to honest feedback.

Step4 Learn from the experience. Once you've accepted your portion of responsibility, analyze what you could have done differently for a better outcome.

Step5 Set goals to improve your situation. Be realistic when identifying goals, so that you are creating a path for success and not one of failure.

Step6 Focus on who you are and what you have to offer. If you've lost a big client, faced embarrassment or even lost employment, take a step back and consider your deepest dreams and desires. Sometimes a setback is a blessing in disguise because it forces you to look at your life in a new way.

Step7 Take baby steps. Small accomplishments will build your confidence and self-esteem. When you carry yourself with pride and confidence, others will respond positively to that message of dignity.

4. Read a book. There are lots of great novels out there, and probably some of them are stuffed into a bookshelf you never look at! Reading is great, and sometimes you can never stop!

5. Write a story. There are lots of ways to write stories. By computer, on paper, and on a typewriter! Find the idea of your story and write. You can continue long stories onto the next rainy day!

6. Paint a picture. Paint some still life or make a load of rubbish into a masterpiece! Look around your house for things to make art with. There might be some painting equipment somewhere around your house! Or you can draw and color if you want!

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Have a Great Conversation

Step1
Be interesting. The first step in having a great conversation is to work on yourself. You need to have a wealth of knowledge to draw on to make the conversation last. The more information you have to draw on, the better your conversation will be.

Step2
Be interested. Make sure that the person you are talking to is important to you. If you really aren't interested in the person you are talking to, you can't have a great conversation.

Step3
Listen. Believe it or not, more of your conversation skills actually fall into the listening category than the talking category. If you follow what the other person is talking about, it intensifies the conversation.

Step4
Communicate clearly. Make sure that the person can hear and understand you well. For example, it is hard to have a good conversation in a loud club.

Step5
Use your nonverbal communication skills. Make sure you are making eye contact with the person and your whole body is facing them. This shows interest and keeps your mind from wandering.

Step6
Watch for non-verbal cues. If the other person is checking their watch or scanning the crowd, move on. You don't want to try to drag out a dead conversation.

Answer: A – Wynberg

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Save Money Everyday

Step1Calculate your resources and income. This information will enable you to determine your spending capacity.

Step2Contemplate purchasing a product before plunging headlong. Scrutinize each purchase, especially if it seems an extravagant purchase and figure out its significance or usefulness. You will soon realize that more than 50 percent of your spending is probably meaningless.

Step3Develop insight into the holes where your money tends to slip by keeping an account of all the money you spend. Keep a month-to-month log of money spent on various categories such as food, clothing and medical expenses.

Step4Avoid dining out while at work or with family and friends. Pack your lunch and drinks for the day and carry them from home to work. If you do eat out, check for early evening offers, new restaurants with specials and hotels that offer discounts and coupons. Or, try candlelight dinners at home instead.

Step5Cut down on your trips to the vending machine or the deli to purchase snacks. Substitute homemade snacks, seasonal fruits or store-bought snacks purchased during your grocery trips.

Step6Plan your shopping carefully, especially when you shop for groceries. Preplan your menu for the week, note the ingredients and only purchase items that are on the list. Refrain from buying groceries when you are hungry, as you tend to make impulsive purchases on an empty stomach.

Step7Be a savvy shopper. Look for coupons in newspapers, magazines and online as well as weekly or daily in-store specials. Consider buying a store brand product instead of a branded product.

Step8Check out prices at different stores and buy from a store where the item you require or a similar item is at a lower price.

Step9Slash your power bill by using electricity sparingly. Develop a simple yet splendid habit of switching off lights and fans when leaving the room. Notice the difference it creates in your bill.

Step10Do not make purchases when you are tired or when you have kids with you. Beware of enticing combo packs, eye-catching displays and free gifts with purchase of an item. Make use of coupons and rebates wherever possible.

Step11Make purchases of shoes, bed linens, home décor items, furnishings and clothes during sales periods. Also keep an eye out for off-season sales and clearance sales.

Step12Create a collection of original gift ideas. Present your dear ones with fresh hand-plucked flowers from the garden, a personally embroidered handkerchief, fresh homemade cookies or chocolates, jams or pickles. They will appreciate your skill as well as efforts and you will save a lot of money.

Step13Allocate a specific amount per month towards a gift fund, birthday fund or whatever else you may want to call it. By setting aside some cash every month for this fund, a substantial amount will accumulate and it can be directly utilized towards buying something during the holiday season or on birthdays or anniversaries.

Step14Economize with a motive. Keep in mind the beautiful diamond earrings you were tempted to purchase at a jeweler’s shop or an expensive pair of cufflinks or a dream destination for the holidays. This will accelerate the speed and the size of your savings.

Step15Address the issue of your credit cards, insurance and loans with care. Acquire the cheapest loans, pay back full balances on your credit card debts to earn discounts and balance the negative impact of the loans with the positive effects of insurance plans. Reach out for advice from friends and professionals.

WE ALSO FEATURED:
A interview done by Cindy Witten for the Morning Cruise with Courtney Sampson from the IEC. He spoke about the election expectations in terms of security etc. He pointed out that they more than ready for tomorrows elections that they not expecting any mishaps there’ll be security at every voting station and voting ends at 9pm exactly so don’t vote in the dark as in at night get out early. Also check your ballot paper because if it’s not stamped the vote will not be invalid. If you encounter any problems speak to the Presiding officer stationed at the voting station.

The Morning Cruise then broke away from election talk and addressed a still much needed discussion being depression as a genetic DISEASE. Emphasis on disease because loads of people still get it wrong and don’t understand that depression is a disease. Joining us telephonically from Johannesburg was Cindy van Wyk senior counsellor at South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG). We discussed the fact that it’s more than possible for depression to be passed on to you from your family members. We discussed how family involvement is vital as well as being educated on the situation is. To find out more about SADAG visit http://www.sadag.co.za/ they have a suicide crisis hotline 0800 567 567

It is an occasion for the world's citizens to commit to building a safer, healthier, cleaner, sustainable world. To find out more visit http://www.greenworks.co.za/ and don’t forget to participate.

Caulk all gaps/joints in your exterior siding and trim. Also caulk and weatherstrip around window trims and exterior doors to prevent cold air from seeping in and warm air from escaping.

Step3
Place outlet covers over your outlets to prevent cold air from seeping in.

Step4
If you have a fire place or wood burning oven, stock up on some firewood in for those days and nights you prefer to heat your home with a nice toasty fire or in case the power goes out from a winter storm.

Step5
Make sure you have some extra warm blankets around. You could also use an electric blanket (but don't forget to turn off).

Step6
Keep your heating bills lower buy purchasing a space heater and just using it to heat whichever room you are in. But remember to read the instructions and follow them carefully as they can be a fire and injury hazard.

Step7
Keep the doors to different rooms in the house closed so that those rooms can retain their heat, keeping you cozy and warm all winter long.

Step8
Buy some warm flannel or fleece PJs so you can stay warm at night without having to crank up the heater.

TIP OF THE DAY
Food Safety Tips

Handle with care
While raw meats and eggs are the most common sources of illness-causing microbes, fresh fruits and vegetables can also carry the organisms that cause food poisoning.

Keep raw meats and fish away from other foods, especially those that won't be cooked.
Thaw frozen meats in the refrigerator, microwave oven, or under cold, running water-never on a counter.

Wash all produce before it's used, even if it looks clean. Produce that won't be peeled, such as strawberries or green onions, can be washed in plain water. If necessary, use a scrub brush to remove surface dirt. Wash lettuce leaves individually. Produce that will be peeled or eaten off the rind, such as oranges or cantaloupes, should be washed on the outside with soapy water and rinsed well.

Use paper towels and soapy hot water to clean utensils, counter surfaces, and cutting boards immediately after preparing raw meats and fish. If you use sponges, place them in the upper rack of the dishwasher. Wash your hands, faucets, and anything else you may have touched.

Don't undercook foods
Thorough cooking will kill most germs. To make sure foods get hot enough, check the internal temperature by inserting a food thermometer in the thickest part.
Meats: Cook beef and pork to at least 160 ° F, lamb to 145 °, and poultry to 180 ° for thigh meat and 170 ° for breasts. Ground beef, pork, veal, and lamb should be cooked to at least 160 °, and ground poultry to 165 °.

Seafood: Cook fish until it flakes with a fork. Simmer shrimp for three to five minutes or until the flesh turns pinkish and opaque. Steam clams and mussels for 5 to 10 minutes or until the shells open (if they don't, toss them out). Cook oysters until they're plump, for about five minutes. Don't eat raw oysters.

Eggs: Don't use homemade foods containing raw eggs, such as mayonnaise and Caesar-salad dressing. Commercial versions are okay, since manufacturers use heat-treated eggs. Use hard-boiled eggs within two to three days of cooking.

WE ALSO FEATURED:

GENDER HUB WEDNESDAY
By Denisia Adams
Hello to you. You know I must admit that on this mid week day I’m feeling rather tired and unenthusiastic about the day as well. Then again I have found these brilliant set of tips on how to make the best of your day.

Today on the Morning Cruise was Gender Hub Wednesday where we discussed things concerning gender, Check it out:

WORD(s) OF THE DAY
labile \LAY-byl\
- Open to change; apt or likely to change; adaptable.

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
What is the significance to celebrating the freedom day the 27th April?

Answer: It’s a celebration of South Africa's first non-racial democratic elections of 1994.

DID YOU KNOW
Perhaps the largest animal to have ever lived, the blue whale can grow to be 100 ft (30.5 m) long and weigh as much as 200 tons. It eats as much as 4 tons of krill a day, and its massive mouth can hold up to 100 tons of food and water, but its throat restricts the passage of anything wider than a beach ball.

TIP OF THE DAY
10 Simple, Sure-fire Ways to Make Today Your Best Day Ever
1. Be present. Instead of having your mind elsewhere, bring yourself back to now, in this moment, focused on where you are and what you’re doing and who you’re with. We cannot change things that have already happened, and obsessing over them does nothing to help us now. We cannot predict the future, so worrying about it does nothing to help you either. Instead, focus on now … if something is worrying you, take action … but even better, just be in the moment, and live as if now is all there is. Because it is.

2. Do less. Have a full schedule today? Cut it in half. You don’t need to do everything on that list. Take a few items on your list and move them to next week. Do less (but focus on the important — not urgent — stuff) and you’ll be less stressed out. If you cut your list down and do only half the things you want to do for today, you’ll have a much better day.

3. Get one important thing done. As said in the previous point, do less but do more important things. When I say important, I mean things that will have a huge impact on your life (personally or career wise) over the long run. Not things that need to be done today or else. Here’s why: If you get something important done, something that will help you in the long run (even if it’s only a step towards a major accomplishment, it’s important), you will feel great! You’ll feel a sense of accomplishment. That makes any day a great day.

4. Plan your perfect life. What would your life be like if you had no restrictions? I’m not talking about living in a Mansion or flying around in jet planes, but what would make you happy. A good step: pick the 4-5 most important things in your life, and build your perfect life around those things, eliminating most of the rest if possible. Plan that perfect life, and then plan the first few steps you need to take to get there. Now schedule those first steps over the next week, including one today. It feels amazing to start taking action on making your life the way you want it to be.

5. Declutter. Even if it’s just a little space — say a drawer or a shelf — decluttering an area of your life can have a wonderful effect on your mood and happiness level. Clearing your desk (at least the surface of it) can be a great way to start.

6. Go for a walk. That movement, and the fresh outdoor air, will have a great effect on your day. And even better: take a few minutes to enjoy the nature around you as you go for your walk. Clear your head. Calm yourself during a busy time of your day. Think to yourself: “How lucky I am to be alive! How wonderful a world I’m in! What opportunities and possibilities lie before me!”

7. Focus on 3 projects. Choose only your three most important projects, and focus on them exclusively. Focus on getting them to completion, to the exclusion of all other projects. Do that today. You’ll be amazed at how much you’ll accomplish.

8. Listen to great music.

9. Watch a sunrise or sunset.

10. Spend time with a loved one. Another obvious one, perhaps, but there’s nothing better, really. Even if you don’t have a spouse or kids, there’s someone in your life that you value … make time out of your day today to spend time with them … and not just to watch TV, but to actually be with them, talk with them, bond with them.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Remember Names

Step1
Pay attention when you are introduced to someone. A few minutes after you meet the person, say his or her name to yourself again. If you have forgotten it, talk to the person again and ask for the name.

Step2
Write down the new name three times while picturing the person's face; do this as soon as possible after meeting someone.

Step3
Ask how to spell a difficult name, or glance at the spelling on the person's business card, if it's offered. If you know the spelling of a word and can picture it in your mind, you'll remember it better.

Step4
Connect a name to a common word you will remember. For example, the name Salazar could sound like 'salamander,' 'bazaar' or 'sell a jar.'

Step5
Make a connection to the person's hobby or employment. 'Bill the pill' might help you remember the name of your pharmacist, for example.

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
What South African song bird is known for songs like, MAGIC, TAXI RIDE and FLY?

A – Andriette B – JODY C - Zamajobe

Answer: C - Zamajobe
Born in Frankfort in South Africa’s Free State province. Zamajobe Sithole sang in the local choir from the age of nine. In 2003, Zamajobe competed in the “Pop Idols" competition, an experience which afforded her a platform to learn about South African audiences.

DID YOU KNOW
Tap dancing originates from Irish clog dancing and what is called the Irish reel and jig. Also did you know Elvis favourite collectibles were official badges. He collected police badges in almost every city he performed in.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Stay Alert While Driving

Step
Get a good night's sleep, and plan around your body clock so you drive at the times of the day when you are most alert.
Step
Take a 10- to 15-minute break to exercise, stretch or walk briskly after every 2 hours you drive.
Step
Let someone else do a share of the driving. Divide the driving into blocks of no more than about 4 hours for each driver.

Step
Eat regularly to keep blood-sugar levels even, but be mindful of what you eat. A candy bar won't help much once the initial sugar buzz wears off. To stay alert, the body requires good nutrition.

Step
Drink coffee or tea (or another form of caffeine) for a temporary fix. Keep in mind that caffeine does not take the place of adequate sleep.

Step
Don't drink alcohol.

Step
Learn to recognize drowsiness. Among the signs: You keep yawning, your head nods, your mind wanders, you feel eyestrain, or your eyes want to close or have trouble staying focused. It all means that you need a break from driving.

Step
Take a nap if you're sleepy, even if you can't get to a bed. You'll have to judge your surroundings, but you're probably safer napping for a half-hour in a locked car pulled over to the side of the road than you are driving drowsy.

How to Develop Self-Appreciation
By eHow Relationships & FamilyEditor

Learning to appreciate one's self is a necessary step to develop confidence. When one can truly appreciate himself, he will typically live a fuller and happier life. The following steps will help in the process of developing self-appreciation.

Step1 Take good care of yourself. It sounds simple but is not necessarily an easy thing to do. You have to be consistent and disciplined in your effort.

Step2 Eat right and exercise regularly. A healthy lifestyle will positively affect the way you perceive yourself.

Step3 Find time to relax. When you have time to relax, you will have less stress and ultimately will be happier.

Step4 Accept yourself for who you are. Your perception of yourself will reflect how you act and behave.

Step5 Think good thoughts, listen to good music and read good books. Increase your knowledge and seek continuous learning. The more you learn, the more confident you are.

Step6 Avoid comparing yourself to others. Most of the time, you will tend to compare your weaknesses to the other person's strengths. Comparing is counterproductive to the idea of developing self appreciation. Remember, you have nothing to prove to others, just yourself.

Step7 Develop your talents and share them. As you become better and continue to share your abilities, other's appreciation for your skills will increase. This, in turn, will lead to greater self-appreciation.

Step8 Learn to forgive yourself and others. You will release a burden off your chest and will be happier and more productive.

Step9 Count your blessings. List everything you are grateful for and you will be surprised at the number of positive things in your life. If nothing else, this will help you realize that you are better off than a lot of other people. Appreciate this good fortune.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Comfort a Grieving Person
By eHow Relationships & Family Editor

Step1
Allow the person to talk about his grief and express his feelings. Listen without offering advice or interrupting.

Step2
Be patient with the grieving person's changeable moods. It's normal for someone who is grieving to alternate between anger, sadness, numbness and acceptance.

Step3
Give the person as much time as he needs to grieve. Telling him to 'get over it' or 'let it go' won't help him grieve any faster.

Step4
Ask the bereaved what you can do to help. Try not to get frustrated if he doesn't know what he needs.

Step5
Offer suggestions of what you could do to help. For example, does the grieving person need more space? Does he want you to be around more? Are there tasks or errands he needs done?

Step6
Show affection such as hugs or handholding if the bereaved seems receptive. If he seems uninterested in affection, try not to get irritated - this will pass with time.

Step7
Encourage the grieving person to join a grief support group. He can call his doctor for a referral or look in the community service section of the yellow pages for grief support services.

Step8
Urge the grieving person to get professional help if he's so depressed that he's unable to function day to day. Assist him in setting up an appointment with a doctor to discuss counseling or possible medication.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Organize a Closet
By Erinn Valencich, Expert in Interior Design

Opening up a closet door can be a nightmare for some. Many times, clothes, shoes, purses and other miscellaneous items get shoved together and pose a problem when you want to find something. Here are a few tips to get your closet organized and save time in the future when going through it. Not only will a well-organized closet help you find things, but it will make it a much more pleasant view when you leave the door open!

Things You’ll Need:
Hangers, Shoe rack, Metal, Wood or Plastic shelves, Rod, Hooks, Low Dresser , Decorative boxes

Step1
First things first. Designate areas for specific items or categories. As far as clothes go, I like to organize them by color. This gives the most artistic look to a closet, and helps you put things away quickly. I organize each color category from short to long sleeve, then dresses and sweaters. I prefer to keep all skirts and pants separate. Jackets have their own area too. This way when you need one, they are all together. Again grouped by color, short to long. By doing this, you can take advantage of the height you create underneath your short-hanging clothes. Skirts and shorter shirts are great for adding a shoe rack underneath. It lets you see your shoes without having to pull any lower-hanging clothes out of the way.

Step2
The top of your closet is a great spot to put purses. You can utilize the vertical space that most older homes provide by hanging metal or plastic shelves. If you prefer, take a trip to the home improvement store and add new wood shelving by easily nailing small supports to the wall underneath and then one 3/4 inch-thick board on top. If you have an older home with one clothes rod, removing that rod, hanging it up higher and putting another rod underneath is a quick afternoon project that will literally double the amount of hanging space!

Step3
If you have closet doors that swing out, over-the-door racks are a great place to store items like belts, scarves and hats. If you don't have doors that swing out, you can make room for these items by simply adding a few hooks on the inside of your closet to the sides. By taking the few extra steps to create these little areas, your closet will become much more functional!

Step4
If you don't have a lot of room in your bedroom, you could always take a low dresser and put it in your closet for storage. This also gives you the opportunity to add more storage on top of it while being able to close your closet for a clean and uncluttered look.

Step5
Sick of all the plastic storage containers? Decorative boxes are a great way to add storage, with a stylish twist! Organize.com (see Resources below) has a lot of great storage solutions for your closet!

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
The production and or movie Sarafina commemorated what important day in South Africa?

A – Youth Day, Soweto Uprising B – Heritage day
C – Human Rights Day

Answer: A – Youth Day, Soweto uprising

The release of Sarafina! commemorates the watershed event of 16 June 1976 in our history and honours all the heroes and victims of the struggle, and celebrates their courage. The most important reason for the release of the Directors’ Cut of Sarafina! is to ensure that the youth of today are able to experience, through the film, the hardship and subjugation that South Africans endured during the apartheid years. The film will sensitize the youth to the struggle and give them an opportunity to appreciate our freedom and how it was achieved, especially the impact of 16 June 1976 on the path to freedom and democracy.
Sarafina! was the first South African film to be made in the country after the unbanning of the African National Congress and the release of Nelson Mandela from 27 years in prison.

Get organized. Develop a system that works for you and stick to it.

Step3
Keep a journal to record how you spend every hour of the day. Note where your time is being spent and consider how you can be more efficient.

Step4
Dovetail errands so that you can do them all in one trip.

Step5
Value your time. Hire a housekeeper and gardener if you can afford it. Send clothes that need to be ironed to a laundry service. Buy quality foods that take minimal time to prepare.
Step6
Make technology your friend. Learn to use cellular phones, e-mail and personal organizers efficiently. It will save you time down the road.

Step7
Keep a positive attitude, even during challenging times. Moping and procrastination consume time and energy.

Step8
Reward yourself. Stick to your plans to exercise daily or read your favorite novel. Plan a trip "away from it all" where you can relax and pamper yourself.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Block Drafts

Step1
Use a lighted incense stick or a tissue on a stick to find any drafts. Move it slowly around windows and doors; even slight air movement will move the smoke or the tissue.

Step2
Check the caulking around your windows. There should be no gaps in the caulking between it and the walls of your house. If there is a leak, remove the old and install new caulking. Checking the caulking every year is a good way to save energy.

Step3
Check the weatherstripping on your doors. Weatherstripping prevents drafts from getting in or cool air from getting out. If you have no weatherstripping it's easy to add, lots of it is adhesive- backed and just sticks onto the doorframe or bottom of the door.

Step4
Check around your electrical outlets. Areas behind the electrical outlets and switches are often not insulated, but you can buy thin foam insulation specifically designed to fit under an outlet plate that will block drafts.
