ART – C FRIDAY
By Denisia Adams

Hi there hope you doing good on this frantic Friday. Today was Art – C Friday where we kept it all about arts and culture, check it out:

WORD(s) OF THE DAY
immure \ih-MYUR\
1. To enclose within walls, or as if within walls; hence, to shut up; to imprison; to incarcerate.
2. To build into a wall.
3. To entomb in a wall.

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
Which legendary South African flyhalf tried out for the Dallas Cowboys in 1983?
Answer: Naas Botha

DID YOU KNOW
In September 1752 the Julian calendar was replaced with the Gregorian calendar in Great Britain and its American colonies. The Julian calendar was 11 days behind the Gregorian calendar, so 14 September got to follow 2 September on the day of the change. The result was that between 3 and 13 September, absolutely nothing happened!

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Determine How Much Sleep You Need

Sleep is essential to life, but how much quality sleep we need varies from person to person. How do you know how much sleep you need?

Step 1
To truly determine the amount of sleep your body needs, you'll have to be able to enjoy unstructured, uninterrupted, and undisturbed sleep for a few days. Ideally, you'll want to sleep this way for a week, but that's a rare luxury for most people. Two or three days, a weekend or so, will do. Just let everyone around you know that you are not to be disturbed.

Step 2
Pick a time to go to sleep each night. It is very important that this be the same time every night, regardless of when you woke up, or whatever else you did that day. To determine the amount of sleep you truly need, you'll also need to avoid altering your natural sleep cycle with medications, alcohol, or behavior changes (like giving up caffeine for the weekend). Make sure you are going to SLEEP at the same time each night, so enjoy your other bedroom activities before that scheduled sleep time.

Step 3
Remove all alarms, lights and other distractions from your bedroom. You do not want your sleep interrupted in any way, and you do not want anything to wake you up in the morning. In a perfect world, we would wake up naturally when our bodies have fully rested and recharged. That's what you'll be trying to replicate in this sleep test.

Step 4
Record what time you wake up naturally. Do not hit snooze (you shouldn't have an alarm on anyway!), and do not roll over and try to sleep more, even if you're still tired. The first morning can be difficult for some people because you're probably sleep-deprived from your day-to-day life. After a few nights of this sleep test, however, you should notice that your total sleep time becomes consistent, and that you feel much more rested in the morning. Whether you're naturally waking after five hours or nine hours, that's your personal sleep requirement. Strive to get that much sleep each night, and your waking hours will be much healthier and happier.

How to Clean a Toilet Effectively
Cleaning a toilet may seem like a no-brainer, but there is a difference between cleaning a toilet for appearance and cleaning a toilet effectively for health.

Step 1
Prepare yourself. Gather all your cleaning tools. Open the windows if you are sensitive to cleaning fumes or if you plan to be working in the bathroom for a while.

Step 2
Dive in! Put on your gloves and then lift the toilet lid and seat. Pour into the toilet bowl the amount of toilet bowl cleaner recommended on the bottle. Aim for the surface of the bowl, not the water. Allow it to soak for at least 10 minutes. If you are cleaning more than one toilet, go ahead and do this step for each toilet so you don't have to wait 10 minutes for each.

Step 3
Scrub in. Using the toilet brush, scrub around the bowl, in the base of the toilet, then concentrate underneath the rim. If necessary, use more toilet cleaner for stubborn spots.

Step 4
Flush away the toxins. Flush the toilet, letting the toilet brush dangle in the bowl while still holding on to it. As the bowl fills back up with fresh water, rinse the brush. Remove the brush and return in to its stand. Give the toilet one final flush.

Step 5
Focus on the outside. Using the spray disinfectant and paper towels or disinfecting wipes, wipe down all outer surfaces, concentrating on areas that are especially germy, such as the handle, the seat and the lid. Allow the disinfectant to remain on the surfaces for 10 minutes to be sure all the germs are killed.

Step 6
Wash your hands. With the gloves still on your hands, use an antibacterial soap and warm water to wash the gloves as if you were washing your bare hands. Remove them and allow them to air dry. Now wash your bare hands and give the soap dispenser a wash to remove any germs transferred from the gloves.

How to Relieve the Pain of an Abscess Tooth

If you have ever experienced the pain of an abscessed tooth you want the best pain relief as quick as you can possibly get it. Read on to learn how to relieve the pain of an abscess tooth.

Step 1
Know that having a tooth abscess is not much fun for anyone or those around us; a person is understandably mean and nasty when pain is present. The first step to pain relief is getting an ice pack on your face, to help keep the swelling down and to restrict the blood flow into that area.

Step 2
Calling a dentist as soon as possible for antibiotics is a great step, however in most areas you will have to wait a bit to get an appointment. Telling the office you will take an appointment at the last-minute is a great way to get in there quicker.

Step 3
Picking up the prescription your dentist gives you is great; make sure you take all of it as prescribed. Keeping up with ice packs on your face for 20 minutes at a time will work wonders for swelling and pain relief, so keep there.

Step 4
Gargling with warm salt water is an excellent way to get some pain relief is you can stand it. Try not to gargle when the pain is at its worst; during this time rinse your mouth with the antiseptic mouthwash. Swish and spit it as tolerated for pain relief.

Step 5
Getting the tooth removed as soon as possible is a great idea to assure that the tooth never abscesses again. Your dentist may drain the abscess on an emergency visit, which is great for pain relief but will wait to remove the tooth until a person has been on antibiotics for a few days.

How to avoid SAD (seasonal affective disorder)

Wintertime is the time of year when more depression occurs. Here are some simple tips to avoid this common seasonal blues.

Step 1
Drive in the sun. On cold, but sunny days - roll down windows or open the sunroof (this is best option).

Step 2
Sit by windows. When you go out to eat, ask to be seated by the windows. Keep in mind that windows do have UV protection, so you are not getting a lot of sun. But you are at least getting natural light therapy.

Step 3
Go outside. Even if it’s cold, a1/2 hour a day outside can make a world of difference. Try walking to your closet store (rather than driving to it), or walk with a friend (hot coffee in hand). This is the BEST way to ward off SAD.

Step 4
If SAD does happen. Look for support. Research online and specifically search for others that are going through it as well. Having this type of support will make a world of difference.

Step 5
Schedule a mid-winter holiday. There are lots of places you can go that are not expensive during the winter.

Step 6
Readjust your attitude. There are hobbies you can take up (baking, reading, writing, etc) that will keep you going during the SAD-infested season.

Act as if you're not shy. In private, behave as if you're oozing confidence. Hold your chin up, stick your chest out, add a swagger to your walk and speak firmly. It may seem ridiculous, but you will see results when you're out in public.

Step 3
Practice making eye contact and smiling in your interactions with others. Strike up casual conversations with strangers about weather or current events.

Step 4
Look your best. One way to improve self-consciousness is to always look good and limit ways you can be self-critical.

Step 5
Lower your fear of rejection by imagining the worst possible outcome. If you approach someone, they may say "no" or they may just walk away. Absolutely everybody has been rejected at some point, but no one has to dwell on it.

Step 6
Look and learn. Watching friends or even strangers who aren't shy is a good way to learn some tips first-hand.

Step 7
Feel positive about yourself, don't get frustrated and have fun. Remember, the real goal is to find someone who will like you for who you are.

The irritation can be caused by rapid eating, emotional stress and even some diseases. The best cure? Breathing into a paper bag. This calms the diaphragm by increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in your bloodstream.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Deal With Depression After Losing a Job
Step 1
Seek professional help if needed. First and foremost is to seek help from those that are trained to do so. Talking to a therapist is nothing to be ashamed about; they are there to help you. You may be able to find low-cost counseling or your previous employer may offer services. If you can’t speak with a pro, a good venting session with a friend is always beneficial.

Step 2
Get active. You would be surprised at how a good run around the block helps with anxiety. Exercise releases endorphins and relieves stress. Getting more exercise will also get you in shape. This is a wonderful way to use extra time and relieve stress—and make fitness a priority.

Step 3
Be open with your loved ones. Talk to your family. This is not the time to be proud or shoulder the burden. Your loved ones are going to need to know the facts if they are going to help you. Be completely open with your feelings and your family will appreciate you for it.

Step 4
Talk to friends. It’s easy to abandon your friends after losing your job, but having your friends around will make it easier for you. Some of them might be in the same boat as you. Hiding in your house doesn’t solve the problems. Get out in the world and socialize. This is also a great opportunity to spend time with the pals that you wouldn’t normally have time for.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Spend Time Usefully While Unemployed
By Kristen Fischer, eHow Expert in Careers & Work

Step 1
Plan activities with the family. Work isn’t an excuse for not going to a SOCCER game with your children now. Take the time to be apart of their lives to a fuller extent. Go for a walk with your significant other in the park. Do the things you always wanted to do with the family.

Step 2
Get a hobby. Find a fun and challenging activity that can help take your mind off not working. Learn a new language or take up fishing. Keep yourself active or you might steer down the road towards depression. Always look at your time as an opportunity to learn something new.

Step 3
Volunteer. It really doesn’t matter what you may choose to volunteer for, but getting out of the house and doing something for others will help pass the hours. Go down to the local shelter and hand out food or join a clean up crew and clean the highways. Getting involved in the community can be great for the soul and can be a beneficial resume filler.

Step 4
Participate in training courses. There are places which offer some kind of training courses when unemployed. Take a computer course in Microsoft Word even if you think you know all about it. Having a state certificate asserting you have passed a training course can definitely help find that new job and reflect on your resume that you stayed active in pursuing your professional development while out of work.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Buy Constipation Products
Step 1
Know the difference between stool softeners or non-stool softening laxatives. Laxatives make you go to the bathroom, but they may not bring you comfort. Stool softeners soften the stool so you can go easily and comfortably.

Step 2
Understand how laxatives and stool softeners work. Some laxatives bind your stool together by adding bulk. You need to drink a lot of water with these so your bowels can move the large stools out of your body.

Step 3
Use suppositories if you want to go without a lot of pain. Suppositories leave lubrication in your body which helps the stools slide out. Stool softeners make the stools soft so they can exit the body with little discomfort.

Step 4
Find out the cause of your constipation so you know which type of laxative to choose.

Step 5
Know the side effects of different laxatives. Make sure you know how long you should use the laxative. Some laxatives can swell in your throat and cause choking if you don’t swallow them properly. Others can make you feel nauseous or give you cramps.

Step 6
Try natural remedies if you don’t want to use over the counter medication. Try prunes, grapes, fiber and drink several glasses of water a day. Add fruits, vegetables and fiber to your diet.

Step 7
Get a prescription from a doctor if over the counter medication doesn’t work, if you have a serious medical condition or if you are taking a medication that shouldn’t be combined with laxatives.

TIP OF THE DAY
Top 7 Best Ways to Entertain Mom on Mother's Day

1.
Plan the Menu for the Day
Mom shouldn't have to think about anything other than how to amuse herself on Mother's Day. That means you need to give a little thought to what she enjoys eating, and what you are capable of preparing for her. Then go for it and surprise her with a tasty meal or two, or three - remember all the meals she cooks for you throughout the year!

2. Shop for the Groceries You Will Need
You wouldn't think of giving Mom the recipes to shop for the groceries for her Mother's Day meals, would you? I hope not! But, if you need a little help organizing the shopping list for yourself, you'll find useful tips in this article.

3. Straighten Things Up to Make Mom More Comfortable
Delicious meals, prepared and served with love, are a wonderful way to pamper Mom on her day. But if the house looks a mess, it will be difficult for her to relax and fully appreciate your efforts. That's why a little tidying up will help to set the stage for full relaxation.

4. Dress Up the Table
Remember to set an attractive table. That means using tableware that matches, including all necessary utensils, and remembering to set a napkin. Even if you've never used anything but your sleeve, Mom appreciates the purpose of napkins. Finally, a beautiful centerpiece, and it doesn't have to be large or expensive, will show Mom you've thought of every last detail.

5. If You REALLY Can't Cook, Take Her Out
If you don't have the time or the talent to cook for Mom, there's always the old standby - taking her out to a restaurant. Here are a few suggestions for making sure things are the way you'll want them to be when she arrives.

6. Shower Her with Chocolate
You didn't think I'd forget this critical ingredient, did you? There aren't too many moms I know who don't rank chocolate among their favorite indulgences. So unless Mom is on a very strict diet and doesn't want the temptation, be sure to add something chocolate to the day, whether it's a dessert or a box of her favorites.

7. Toast Her with Something Fun
Sparkling wines are perfect for celebrations. If your Mom doesn't drink alcohol, toast her with whatever is her beverage of choice, whether it's a smoothie, iced tea, or a chocolate milkshake.

TIP OF THE DAY
How To Wash Your Hands

Turn on water, preferably to a warm, comfortable temperature.

Use approximately a dime sized squirt of liquid hand soap (or according to manufacturer's instructions).

Lather and rub hands together for at least 20 seconds (Sing the "Happy Birthday" song twice).

Be sure to wash well between fingers and under nails, although using a nail brush is not necessary.

Rinse all soap off hands.

Using two paper towels, dry hands completely.

Turn off faucet with paper towels, then discard towels in garbage can.

Tips:
Hot water is not necessary.

Hand washing is most effective at washing away germs, not necessarily killing them.
Antibacterial soaps have not been proven to be more effective than regular soap, so use what you like.

Getting hands completely dry is essential in the hand washing process. Wet hands are more likely than even dirty hands to carry germs.

Be sure to use the towels to turn off the faucet. Remember, you just turned it on with your dirty hands!

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Avoid Drama

You have enough to keep you busy—school, work, friends and family. The last thing you need is to deal with drama. Rise above the situation and avoid drama as much as possible with these suggestions.

Step1 Support a friend with a flair for the dramatic, but try not to get involved in every crisis. If you know they just overreacting, allow them to vent, but change the subject to something more positive as soon as you get a chance. If their problem is serious, suggest a guidance counselor.

Step2 Make known your personal problems, fears and desires to only your family members and closest friends. Although it's easy to discuss what's on your mind when someone asks, you run the risk of becoming fodder for the gossip mill if the person isn't trustworthy.

Step3 Resolve conflicts immediately by having a blunt conversation with all of the parties involved. Using a go-between to solve a problem you're having with a friend will only lead to more miscommunication and stress.
Step4 Improve your sense of humor. Staying positive and being able to laugh at situations

Step5 Start spending less time with friends or individuals who thrive on drama.

Step6 Stay out of situations that may get you into trouble or earn yourself a "drama queen" reputation. When a friend tells you a secret, for example, keep it in strict confidence. Try not to vent about your relationships with friends or discuss rumors you've heard about others.
