ART – C FRIDAY
By Denisia Adams
Good day to you. Today on the Morning Cruise we kept it all about entertainment, arts and culture with our Art –C Friday show. Check it out:

WORD(s) OF THE DAY
melee \MAY-lay/ :
A confused conflict or mingling; confusion; turmoil; jumble

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
Name the well known kwaito group known for songs like: Shibobo, Fiesta and Halloween?

Answer: TKZEE

Here’s some info:
TKZee is ZWAI, KABELO and TOKOLLO. Announcing themselves in 1996 with their debut release TAKE IT EEZY, a mini-album considered by many musically ahead of its time, these three school friends shot to prominence in late 1997 and early 1998 with their smash hit singles PALAFALA and SHIBOBO.The self-produced TAKE IT EEZY, with its catchy fusion of R&B, Rap, Hip Hop and Kwaito flavours, was largely ignored by the booming Kwaito market but laid a solid foundation that established TKZee as musical innovators. Zwai Bala is a musical prodigy, who became the first ever black member of the Music in Edinburgh, Scotland. With the classically trained Zwai mixing his talents with the street-hardened rapping skills of Tokollo (TK) and Kabelo (Bouga), TKZee forged a totally unique and addictively fresh music style. Guz had been born.

DID YOU KNOW
Wine is sold in tinted bottles because wine spoils when exposed to light. Also did you know Chocolate is the number one foodstuff flavour in the world, beating vanilla and banana by 3-to-1.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Get Rid of Free Time
Step1

Confirm that you do, indeed, have free time. You do not have free time if you have work that needs to be done, errands to run, or prior engagements that you need to attend. You should not assume you always have free time. Be sure!

Step2
Think about things that are important to you. Try to avoid worrying and fretting, and just think. Think about people you like, things you like, places you have been or would like to be. Try to be optimistic, and if possible, brainstorm what you would like to be doing. You can think of more things that are important and need doing, or other things to waste time!

Step3
Draw. Drawing is a great way to waste time, flourish in your creativity, and make a gift for a friend or wall entertainment for your house! Use a variety of mediums for artwork!

Step4
Surf the Web.Google different things. Try writing eHow articles. Youtube is a gigantic time waster, and always comes through when bored! Find new music, look up art, go to websites of products you like.

Step5
Talk to people.Chat online with friends. Call up a friend, a hotline, a toll free number, or dial a random number and ask for people. If you are feeling daring, you can prank call people.

Step6
Exercise. A little exercise never hurt anyone. If you haven't done any exercise in a long time, now is a good time to start! A polar opposite would be:Eating. Eat, cook, watch Food Network. Anything can be related to food and be very fun!

Step7
Make something.Use things from around your home to make something completely new and original. Use old toilet paper rolls, empty bottles, string, paper, pens, cards, or books to make something totally random!

WE ALSO FEATURED:
An interview with Maruika De Toit who spoke to us about the Breathing spaces exhibition taking place at the Castle in town.

We then were joined by Manenberg High principle, Chris van Der Heever(teacher), Jewaad Martin(pupil) and Riedwaan(pupil) who participated in the Blast Beat competition in which they had to set up a business in the music industry. They won in the South African edition tying with Somerset High and went on to take second place in the international cmpetition.

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION

A – sand B – wine C- fishing, seafood and steel industry

DID YOU KNOW
Traffic lights were used before the advent of the motorcar. Also did you know electric cars were introduced in 1896 and by the end of the century almost 50% of motorcars worldwide were electric.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Appreciate Life
Step1
Find a Purpose. Have an everday purpose. With everything we do, we should understand the reason behind it. What's your purpose and is it for the good of mankind? So many times in life we do the same thing day after day. Never realizing the great things that surround us. Try waking up each morning with an established purpose for your day. What are you going to do? Who are you going to help?

Step2 Don't waste time. Have a plan. If you're not improving yourself or helping others then you're wasting time. Life is about giving to others. It's amazing to think that we are all different. No one person is the same. We are all different and we all have a gift to give to each other. Understand time is precious and you should cherish every moment.

Step3 Help Others Be thankful. Do not focus on what you do not have. Be thankful for what you already have. Each morning give thanks to everything. Instead of saying, "Please allow me to win the lottery." Say, "I am thankful for having more than enough money to take care of all my needs." Give to others...do three good deeds a day for someone else. It will make you feel good to know you have contributed to the world of mankind.

Tips & Warnings
Volunteer to help others. Join a program for children or elderly.
If we don't have a purpose then we are lost.

WE ALSO FEATURED:
An interview with Phina Ntuku from Alive and kicking which provides disadvantaged children and youth the opportunity to play by supplying them with real, first class, hard wearing, repairable hand stitched leather soccer balls (netballs, volleyballs) suitable for playing in rough conditions such as thorny or gravel sports fields, to educate children and youth about HIV and AIDS prevention and treatment and other social issues that impact on their overall health

Then spoke to Mogale Sebopetsa from the Food and security programme which aims to support only groups from the historically disadvantaged communities who want to start a garden. The programme will finance the project with a start-up fund to initiate a community garden and/or project.

Lastly we spoke to Nomfundo Matroos CEO of Chrysalis Academy which is one of the leading social crime prevention & youth development organisations in South Africa, which empowers young people ‘at risk’ to take responsibility for their personal growth.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
M. Scott Peck:
There can be no vulnerability without risk; there can be no community without vulnerability; there can be no peace, and ultimately no life, without community.

A – Paarl B – Francshoek C – Darling

Answer: B – Francshoek
Franschhoek Wine Valley lies deep in the Cape Wine lands and is South Africa´s very own "French Corner". Here, amidst luscious vineyards and gracious Cape Dutch farmsteads, a picturesque village emits proud, ever-present memories of a 17th century Huguenot culture.

DID YOU KNOW
The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the World that still survives. Also did you know Thomas Cook, the world's first travel agency in the world, was founded in 1850.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Teach Wise Money Management to Kids

Step1
Start young. Begin teaching the first principal of wise money management by counting coins. Kids learn about money by holding coins, counting coins and recognizing the differences between each one. They can have a great time counting coins and dropping each one in their very own piggy bank.

Step2
Present opportunities to earn. All kids need a little jingle in their pocket. That’s the purpose of allowance. Allowances can be tied to chores or as some parents prefer, allowances are considered to be a base salary. Whatever allowance system you subscribe to, it’s a good idea to include opportunities to earn additional money as well. For example, a surprise bonus rewarding a good attitude, a job well done or special effort being made is a powerful motivator.

Step3
Consider not spending. There are many things that we can live without. Just because the neighbors have a new car doesn’t mean the family needs one. Just because the neighbors have a flat screen TV doesn’t mean the family will suffer without one. Just because the latest cell phone is on the market doesn’t mean that the old cell phone should be traded in. Talk about the reasons that your family isn’t buying. Overspending is a bad habit that is difficult to break. It’s better in the long run if overspending is squelched in the first place.

Step4
Emphasize the difference between stuff and happiness. Redefine your definition of what it means to have a happy life. Is a good life buying and managing stuff or is it living modestly and having more free time? Ask kids what makes a happy life.

Step5
Promote the joy of saving. Ten-year-old John receives a R5 weekly allowance. His parents established saving guidelines which John has been following successfully for six months. He saves R1 of her allowance following the principal of paying herself first. He can not withdraw from this savings accounting without his parents' permission. The idea is to add to it for several years or more so that he can see it mount up.

Step6
Begin a family savings plan. If you haven’t been counting your own coins and saving them, there is no better time to begin. Practice what you preach about money and savings. Display a family piggy bank or big glass jar in a prominent place and begin a family savings program. Make your motto: "the family that saves together now, plays together later." Whether you're planning a trip or a special expenditure, saving as a family has benefits.

Step7
Practice the art of spending. Deciding how to spend your money and on what is definitely an art worth practicing. Most of us have wasted money. Some folks shop as entertainment. They even convince themselves that buying something they don’t need on sale is saving. The art of spending is defining what you need, recognizing the pleasure of buying something very special and then looking for the exact item that fits the bill. The art of shopping is carefully crafted; it’s not running out to the mall out of boredom. It’s not buying on impulse or a whim.

OMNISCIENT TUESDAY
By Denisia Adams

Good day to you hope you feeling great on this pleasant Tuesday and like I always say YOU SHOULD BE.

Today on Bushradio’s magazine show, The Morning Cruise was Omniscient Tuesday where we keep you in the know between 9am – 12pm. Check it out:

WORD(s) OF THE DAY
immolate \IM-uh-layt\:
To sacrifice; to offer in sacrifice ; To kill or destroy, often by fire.

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
Where is the Cango caves situated?

Answer: Oudtshoorn

29km from Oudtshoorn, at the head of the picturesque Cango Valley, lies the spectacular underground wonder of the Klein Karoo - the Cango Caves. Situated in a limestone ridge parallel to the well known Swartberg Mountains, you will find the finest dripstone caverns, with their vast halls and towering formations

DID YOU KNOW
There are approximately 1,300 known species of scorpion, and they are all venomous. Scorpions have two types of venom: a translucent, weaker venom used to stun and an opaque, more potent venom used to kill heavier threats.

Also did you know It is estimated that there are several million earthquakes in the world each year On average, about 60 earthquakes per year are classified as significant, with 19 classified as major.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Fall Asleep Easier at Night

Step1
Stop drinking coffee or any caffeinated beverages after mid-afternoon. While some people can drink a pot of coffee and promptly go to bed, others retain the effects of caffeine for up to 16 hours. Have your last cup at lunch and drink decaff after in order to fall asleep easier.

Step2
Forget warm milk. If you have trouble falling asleep, opt for herbal tea with a dash of nutmeg, instead. Alternately, swallow a nutmeg capsule with a small healthy snack about one hour before bedtime.

Step3
Take a walk after supper or do some gentle exercises for half an hour but avoid exercising within 3 hours of bedtime. Your body needs time to allow the adrenaline to wind down before you fall asleep.

Step4
Create a happy story in your head. Remember something you loved as a child, perhaps a favored pet or childhood friend. Imagine a story where you and your pet or friend walk together once again and be the age you were when you had this friend. Make your story totally happy and "feel" the depth of happiness between you.

Step5
Make a mental list. It can be a grocery list or a to-do list but imagine yourself writing your list on a piece of paper or a blackboard. Feel your hand as it forms the letters and see your list clearly.

Step6
Tell yourself that whatever is keeping you awake won't be solved tonight by worrying. During times of stress, our minds jump into action when our bodies relax. If stress is the cause of not falling asleep, form your problem into a question and repeat the question over and over in your mind, telling yourself that you will dream of a satisfactory answer.

Step7
Sit up and force your mind to focus on one thing. Insomniacs complain that their mind jumps from idea to idea, never focusing long enough to make a mental decision.

Step8
Get up. the longer you toss and turn, the angrier you will become and sleep will be that much more elusive. Get up and do something. Don't do anything strenuous but check your email and answer your correspondence or watch an old rerun on TV.

Step9
Wear soft foam earplugs or get a white noise machine if noises disturb you at night. Some people are frightened to sleep and in that case, a good guard dog on your floor might offer some reassurance that no one will slip up on you, unawares.

WE ALSO FEATURED:
An interview with Dermatologist Dr Jean Louw who joined us to dispel some myths of the causes of bad skin also discussed the need to know facts on looking after skin.
We then were joined by Athlone SAPS Inspector Bennett and Lameez De Vos from the Safe Schools programme. Who joined us to speak about their plans on taking action against truancy in schools. To find out more contact them on 0800 45 46 47

Lastly we spoke to Trevor Johnston CEO of Educo Africa. Who joined us and who is safe and sound after he took on a challenge where he for six days straight stayed on the side of a building on a portaledge 2m to 1.5m. This is without a conventional toilet, just a book and dry food. This was to raise R1 million for the On The Edge campaign. To find out more call 021 761 89 39

TIP OF THE DAY
10 Cool Things to do This Weekend
The weekend has arrived again, but do you want it to be the same as every weekend? Here are 10 things to do this weekend that you probably wouldn’t normally do. Pick just one thing off the list and add something different to your weekend.

1. Visit a Planetarium
Why not go to your local planetarium this weekend? As well as getting the best view of the night sky that you can see from earth (unless you live in the Arctic maybe), Planetaria often have specialised shows on the weekends.

2. Take a Barista Coffee Course
Are you sick of making bad coffee? If so, why not see if you can find a good barista course this weekend and learn how to make coffee like a pro?

3. Take a Defensive Driving Course
If you haven’t already done a Defensive Driving Course, now is as good a time as any to do it. You learn evasive techniques, safety tips, and get to race around obstacle courses. Not only do you have fun, but you learn to keep yourself safe on the road.

4. Test Drive your Dream car
Most of us have a dream car (mine is a Bentley) - why not call your local dealer and organise a test drive? If it is particularly expensive you may have to do a bit of faking on the telephone so you sound like you can afford one. What could be nicer than driving your favourite car through the city.

5. Visit a Day Spa
Men and women alike need to take care of their skin and bodies, so why not find a nice treatment at a day spa? At the least you can get a massage with aromatherapy. What better way is there to relax after a long week at work?

6. Go to the Theatre or Opera
I wonder how many readers have been to the Opera or the Theatre? Probably the majority haven’t. If you pick well, the opera can be very interesting - it is not like the old days where fat ladies prance around in old fashioned clothes. The same is true of the theatre. I would recommend giving a modern opera a try.

7. Take a Coach Tour
You will learn about many interesting parts of the city you probably don’t know about. If you are a long time citizen of your town, this is a great way to discover new things about the city that you didn’t know. If you live close to another city that you don’t often visit, why not take a bus there and do a tour of that city?

8. Book a Last Minute Hotel Room
This one is good for couples or groups. There are lots of resources on the internet to find last minute cheap hotel rooms. Why not book a night in a hotel you normally can’t afford and have an evening in with movies and alcohol. The best thing is that you don’t need to clean up the next day!

9. Posh Picnic
Everyone loves a picnic from time to time, but why not have a good old fashioned posh picnic? Make (or buy) little sandwiches with salmon, cucumber, egg, or any other posh sandwich filling. Make (or buy) a posh cake. Take a nice rug to sit on and take your best cutlery and real glasses and plates

10. Visit an Old Friend
We all have friends that we haven’t seen in a long time. Why not give them a call and get together this weekend? One of the nicest ways to spend an evening is at home (at your own or your friends’) with beer or wine and good conversation. If the weather is good in your part of the world, have a barbecue and make it a night to remember

WE ALSO FEATURED:
An interview with Duncan from the McLaren Circus which was started by Duncan and his brother 4 years doing garage performances and now it has expanded to what it is today.

We then were joined by Greg Danster from the Community Chest Carnival. He spoke as about the Community Chest Carnival, how it got started and what can be expected this year. Starts Wednesday 25 February 2009 and runs until the weekend.

Lastly we were joined by the cast of the first time ever done in South Africa, a production done by British playwright Sarah Kane 4.48 PSYCHOSIS. The play is directed by Ingrid Wylde and can be seen at the Intimate Theatre, orange street Cape Town.

How to Surround Yourself with Positive People
By
Johnnerlyn, eHow Member

There's an old saying that goes, "Birds of a feather flock together." More often than not, this old saying has proven to be true. Persons that do bad things have to be around others who do bad things. Many ex-cons can spot other ex-cons. Even when there is a room full of one ethnic group, more often than not a person of a different ethnic group would feel most uncomfortable not being able to flock with birds of the same feather as him. Well, the same hold true for people who are positive. They like to be among other positive people. Positive people tend to think alike and fuel themselves from each other's positive vibes. If you are a positive person, follow these steps, and other positive people will flock to you.

Step1 Smile. One sure way to attract a positive person is to smile. Smiling is an exercise that requires far less energy than frowning. A smile on one's face usually indicates there is love in one's heart, and when someone sees that smile, it is a clear pathway to a friend. A smile can also be the signal that someone who is downtrodden needs to see to be a source of uplift thereby turning her negative spirit into a positive one.

Step2 Think positively. Norman Vincent Peele is the guru of positive thinking. His entire premise rests on the fact that the mind is the storehouse of power, and it is up to us to decide if negative power will take up residency or if positive power will reign in our minds. In order to think positively, it usually requires that you believe good things can and will happen for not only yourself but also for those around you.
Step3 Say the right things as often as one can. It is not all the time that one can say what others want to hear. However, it is feasible to believe that in order to attract positive people, one has to say positive things. For example, a simple "Good morning" from a negative person may warrant this response, "What's so good about it?" However, a positive person will try to say the right thing by meeting a nice good morning with an even more cheerful "Great morning." Saying the right things means that positive words have been spoken into existence and they will manifest themselves as such.

TIP OF THE DAY
Top Five Changes for a Healthy Life
By
Elizabeth Scott, M.S., About.com

Maintain An Organized Living Space:
A cluttered environment can literally drain your energy and cause additional stress! On the other hand, a beautifully decorated, soothing environment can be a haven where you can escape from the stressors in your life. Working on de-cluttering your home, getting organized about cleaning, or even practicing Feng Shui are all ways you can work toward the goal of having a beautiful and organized living space.

Learn to Organize Your Time:
By keeping a schedule, learning to say no to excessive demands on your time, and utilizing shortcuts in your life, you’ll be less frantic, and have more time to do the things that energize and de-stress you. You’ll also have more time to do things that you enjoy in life.

Cultivate A Supportive Social Circle:
Those with a supportive social circle, or even just one close friend or partner to talk to and lean on in times of crisis, enjoy healthier, less stressful lives. (And they have more fun!) If you make the commitment to meet more people, and better develop the relationships you have, you’ll find that the payoff is more than worth the effort.

Take Care of Your Body:
If your body is healthy and in good repair, you’re better able to handle stressors in your life. However, an unhealthy body can cause great amounts of additional stress. Eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, getting massages and pampering yourself are all good ways to take care of your body and make stress management easier.

Renew Your Spirit:
We carry stress in our bodies, and hold it in our minds, so a stressful experience can stay with and keep affecting us after the actual experience has ended. Managing stress in your daily life can be much easier on your mental, physical and emotional state if you take regular breaks from it.

There are many great stress-relieving exercises that can help you release both the tension from your body, and the stressful thoughts from your mind, making you more at peace and able to handle the stress that comes in each new day.
As you develop these stress-relieving practices in your daily life, you should experience less stress, and be better able to handle the stress you do experience, leading to a happier, more healthy life.

WE ALSO FEATURED:
An interview concerning the fact that it is Teen Suicide Prevention week and we were joined by Cassey Amoore from the South African Depression and Anxiety Group the only group of it’s kind in South Africa. For more details on depression perhaps you a have a teen who might be showing signs of depression perhaps you are teen who been feeling suicidal please call the toll free number ( free from landlines and public phones) 0800 567 567 or sms 32 312

We then were joined by Councillor Elizabeth Thompson to discuss the no longer called Bus Rapid Transport System (BRT) but is now called the Integrated Rapid Transport System because not only involves the buses but the trains, minibuses/taxis. This system will hopefully kick off soon.

Lastly we were joined by Esmay Swarts who spoke about the City of Cape Town’s Youth Environmental School (YES) Programme.

BEST OF THE BEST MONDAY
By Denisia Adams

Hello and fab day. Hope you enjoyed your weekend or shall I say your valentines weekend.
Today was Best of the Best Monday where we recap and show case some the best features of last week. Check it out:

WORD(s) OF THE DAY
narcissism
AND beatific \bee-uh-TIF-ik\.

narcissism: excessive love or admiration for oneself.

beatific \bee-uh-TIF-ik\: exaltedly happy; blissful

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
Sesotho was only acknowledged as official language in South Africa, in:

A – 2000 B – 1999 C - 1994

Answer: C – 1994
Sesotho was only acknowledged as official language in South Africa in 1994. Yet before 1994 it was, during some periods, promoted through education (from 1955 to mid 1970s) and even the broadcast media (from 1960 on radio and from 1982 on television). The change in language policy for education (from mother tongue education to instruction in Afrikaans and English) led to the Soweto uprisings in 1976.

DID YOU KNOW
In the early days of film making, people who worked on the sets were called movies. The films were called potion pictures. Watermelons are 97% water, lettuce 97%, tomatoes 95%, carrots 90%, and bread 30%. A soccer ball is made up of 32 leather panels, held together by 642 stitches. Picasso could draw before he could walk and his first word was the Spanish word for pencil.

TIP OF THE DAY
The first step to becoming efficient and more productive in life is to get organised. This five-point plan, by Marcia Gracia, will help you confront misguided thinking that says you can’t.

1 I’d rather do something else. Let’s face it. We’d all rather be doing something fun, right? If given a choice between organising files and watching a favourite TV program, it’s pretty clear what most people would choose.

One way to overcome this obstacle is to schedule your organising projects for first thing in the morning. Do your project for an hour or so, and be done with it. Once it’s out of the way, your day will be free to do things you really enjoy.

Another way to combat this mind-set is to make something you love to do dependent upon the completion of your organising project. For instance, don’t allow yourself to read a magazine or newspaper until you’ve done the laundry or washed the car, which you’d promised yourself you’d do today.

2 all-or-nothing. You may be reluctant to start an organising project because you only like to start things that you know you can finish in one session.
It is better to start something and progress a little, than to not start something and to not progress at all.

If it’s difficult for you to leave a project unfinished, your best bet is to give yourself smaller projects that you can complete in less time. For example, you may want to organise your desk, but you know it’s going to take you a few hours, and you can’t seem to find a few open hours in your schedule.

Organising the entire desk might be too large of a goal. But, if you say to yourself that you’re going to clear off the papers from the top of the desk today, empty out the top drawer tomorrow, organise the supply drawer the next day, and so on, now you’ve given yourself projects that can be started—and completed—within short bursts of time, thus satisfying your all-or-nothing tendency.

3 broad goals and priorities. Just making the statement I have to get organised is too broad. It often results in an overwhelming I don’t know where to start feeling. It’s important to define exactly what you want to organise.

Next, prioritise your list. The tasks closest to the top should be those currently causing you the most stress. Once you prioritise your list, choose one or two of those tasks to work on. You really have to focus in order to complete something.

Once these few tasks are completed, you can then move on to the next few.Once you choose your one or two tasks, break them down into smaller mini-goals.

4 a sense of attachment. Sometimes it’s really difficult to part with things because you may feel a sense of attachment. Perhaps you’re a sentimental person. Every item you own reminds you of something else.

Or, you may be a thrifty person, and feel you may be able to use something some day. Perhaps you’re saving it just in case it comes back in style, or if you decide to have another child, or if you decide to pick up that hobby again in the future.

Whatever the reason for your sense of attachment, having such attachments can result in piles upon piles of clutter. If it begins to stress you out, it’s time to let go of some of your stuff.
You don’t have to get rid of everything, but it is important to determine what things are truly important to you and what things are just taking up space. Getting organised is about making decisions.

Choose a clutter spot to tackle. Pick up two items at a time. Try to put one of those items in a keep pile, and the other in a do-not-keep pile. Sometimes you’ll want to keep both, and sometimes you won’t want to keep either. But, try to keep this system going.
If you don’t like to toss, then give away or donate instead.

5 fear of failure. One of the main reasons for not starting an organising project is fear of failure. You may feel that since you haven’t been able to get organised, you never will.
First, a positive attitude is essential to getting and staying organised. The best attitude is a can-do‚ attitude. Believe in yourself. You can do it!
Second, any task or project you progress on, no matter how little the progression, is a success! Enjoy your successes and reward yourself for them

WE ALSO FEATURED:

TIP OF THE DAY
Responsible Dog Ownership
By Jenna Stregowski, RVT, About.com

Make Time For Your Dog
Bonding is not something you can do once and assume it's finished. The bond with your dog is built during the first few weeks to months of ownership, but maintaining the bond is a lifelong process. Remember that while you are at work, out with friends, or running errands, your dog is usually just waiting for you to come home.

Provide Proper Identification
Your dog should wear a collar at all times with current identification. Consider microchipping your dog for an added layer of protection. Proper identification can help you become reunited with your dog if lost rather than letting your dog become one more homeless pet in an overcrowded shelter.

Spay and Neuter
Millions of pets are euthanized each year because of pet overpopulation. If you do not have your dog spayed or neutered you are contributing to this problem. If your dog is suitable for breeding, be a responsible breeder. You can help save lives – please sterilize your pets!

Do Not Be a "Backyard Breeder"
If you choose to breed your dog, be sure to follow the proper protocols. Your dog should be a quality, healthy purebred with no congenital or hereditary problems. Educate yourself about breeding standards, become involved with a network of responsible breeders and find a veterinarian who can be involved along the way. Reputable breeders have years of experience and education. Breeding dogs is not just a hobby.

Keep Your Dog Healthy
Because of their survival instinct, dogs are not as likely to show pain or illness as humans. Regular visits to your veterinarian, healthy diet and exercise are all important aspects to help your dog stay strong and content.

Train Your Dog
Proper etiquette not only benefits you and your dog; it also benefits others. A well-behaved dog is less likely to upset people and pets in public places and will be more welcome at gatherings. If your dog's misbehavior results in any sort of accident, injury or similar incident, you must take full responsibility for that behavior.

WE ALSO FEATURED:

We then spoke to Terry Corr from the My African Dream Children’s Trust who strives to inspire, equip, develop and empower South Africa’s Children to be able to deal with the issues of Poverty, HIV and Aids, Substance and alcohol abuse and environmental degradation. For more info visit http://www.campafrica.org.za/ or contact Terry on 084 680 13 54

11 Essential Tips for Mowing the Lawn by Kelly Burke

Mow once a week to encourage vigorous growth except during an extended drought and times of stress.

Remove no more than one-third of the leaf blade to prevent scalping and weak, damaged plants.

Mow in different directions to prevent wear patterns and encourage upright growth.

Establish a height of cut that allows the grass to thrive and store energy and water reserves.

Maintain sharp blades, torn ragged tips turn brown, look unsightly and can be vectors for disease.

Mow when grass is dry to reduce clumping, improve mulching and avoid potentially spreading disease over the lawn.

If clumping occurs, disperse clumps with a rake or blower.

If you prefer to collect your clippings, start a compost pile. Use compost as a lawn top-dressing.

Walk the yard first, pick up any sticks, toys, or debris.

Wear eye protection and sensible shoes.

String trim first, then finish with the mower for a clean look.
