%%%COMMUNITY BUZZ%%%

Good Day! How are you doing? I hope that you are absolutely fabulous on this oh so good Thursday. I don’t know, but I simply love riddles and taking part in games it can be fun and I thought I would share a riddle with you…Riddle - I run to fast what am I… (Talk)…I have a clue but keep listening…The answer will come your way at the end of the show, but I will remind…. None the less…It has just gone…and a quick reminder in case you didn’t know today in fact is the 30th of October 2008 now if its your birthday today then happy happy birthday hope you have a super day and that everyone around you carries you on their hands… So think about this next situation just imagine…leaving your house going to your favourite shopping mall, restaurant or even if you on your way home from work…nature sometimes calls and you need to go to the bathroom what do you do – now in many cases of course you have to go…but say you get to the bathroom and its not clean at all well I have some pointers to use almost any public toilet safely…Think about that you can call or SMS me… (021) 448 6266 or 32158…It’s actually the worst because when I was younger I refused to use public toliets…Well I have some things that you can do to avoid that… Here's how to safely, and cleanly, use a public bathroom.

1. Find a bathroom.

2. Pick a stall.Usually the first stall when you walk in is the cleanest. If the first one's taken, try to find one that appears reasonably clean.

3. Prepare your seat. Wipe the seat with fresh toilet paper, whether it was dirty or not. Use a seat cover if one is provided. If the bathroom has no seat covers fold toilet paper over where you will be sitting to create one. You can also lay toilet paper inside the bowl on the surface of the water to prevent the water from splashing if it bothers you.

4. Clean up.

5. Roll out some paper towels before washing your hands. This way you don't have to touch the dispenser after washing hands.

6. Wash your hands and always use soap. Dry your hands with the paper towel.

7. Use paper towel to turn off water if applicable.

8. Either push the door open with your foot or if you need to, use paper towel to open door if you need to grab the handle to get out.

Then we wrapped up our series of Community Buzz interview with Kathleen Thomas and she’ll be chatting to us about the from about the HIV/AIDS task team of Prince George Drive Primary School.

Tip of the Day:

I’ve got your tips on to help make your community a safer one… A safe community is a community that looks out for one another. A safe community is one that takes responsibility for supporting its members and ensuring that each and every person in that community is valued. At the end of the day, a community that strives to keep its area and activities safe for all its members creates a vibrant and caring community that is a pleasant and enjoyable place to live together.

* Contact a community affairs officer in your local area. If such a position exists, this is a great first port of call to find out about programs being offered for the community.

* Look for community-oriented programs. Such programs include safety training, community building and area improvements, restoration projects, tree-planting, fundraising to support such community places as libraries, schools, youth centers etc.

* Speak to your neighbors and ask them to join you in visiting a local program. In this way, you can start to build a community spirit of sharing in a program that brings people together. If you like the program that you visited, bring another friend for the next meeting and ask them to bring along their friends as well.

* Get involved. Once you find a community program that interests you, start participating. It sometimes takes a little time to see results, but the only way to see them is by not giving up.

* Take pride in your neighborhood. People's nature is to put more care and concern into something they take pride in.

* Improve the security. In order for people to feel safe, basic improvements can be put in place.

* Consider requesting local officials to implement such improvements as:

· Better lighting for streets and paths
· Youth centers
· Well-marked bicycle trails
· Safe houses for schoolchildren
· Well-equipped and maintained playgrounds
· Rejuvenation of local stores and changes to store opening hours to encourage family visits into the evenings
