By Denisia Adams

Hi there hope you’ve made your vote if not there’s still enough time to GET OUT THERE!

WORD(s) OF THE DAY
quiddity \KWID-ih-tee\
: the quality that makes a thing what it is; the essential nature of a thing.

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
TRUE/FALSE
Today is South Africa’s 14th democratic elections since its historic political transition of 1994?

Answer: FALSE, it’s South Africa’s 4th democratic elections (1994, 1999 and 2004)

DID YOU KNOW
The first electronic mail, or "email", was sent in 1972 by Ray Tomlinson. It was also his idea to use the @ sign to separate the name of the user from the name of the computer. Also did you know Air-filled tyres were used on bicycles before they were used on motorcars.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to go green at home

Air fresheners
• Plug in airfresheners are a waste of electricity.
• If you use an aerosol spray make sure that it doesn't contain CFCs.
• Use incense.
• Create your own airfresher - put drops of essential oil into a spray bottle with some water and
use this as air spray.
• Put some oil into a little dish and leave in the room.
• Use vanilla essence in a small dish as an airfreshener.

Teabags
One teabag can make two cups of tea especially if you make it in a pot - herbal teabags even more so than regular tea.

Batteries
Use rechargeable batteries, not only are they better for the environment but they will save you money.Purchase wind-up torches, radios and toys instead of battery operatedones.

Disposable Tableware
Although it is convenient, avoid using disposable plates, cups and cutlery. If you are going to use it, select the type that is either recyclable orbiodegradable.

Washing
Use ¼ cup of bicarb instead of bleach when doing your washing.
You can also add ¼ cup of white vinegar.
For dark colours use ¼ cup of white vinegar and ¼ cup of salt.
Salt helps restore faded colours as well as removes dirt.

WE ALSO FEATURED:
We interviewed people at different voting stations throughout Cape Town. At about 10:35am in Bonteheuwal we crossed over and things were running smoothly with a variety of age groups making their mark.

In Langa it was reported that the queues were lengthy and the youth has come out in numbers to make their vote heard.

We then crossed over to Bo Kaap, Schotschenkloof and it was reported that it was not as busy as other voting stations and not too much youth making their appearances as yet.
Then at 11:35am we spoke to Sharon Mthlogo from Rainbow fm in Pretoria who gave us an update on what’s happening nationally. So far it’s been reported that a presiding officer was arrested in Ulundi KZN after he was found in possession of two boxes containing a hundred ballots each. Also in Alexandra there are protestors refusing to vote, demanding housing. Other than that voting is still continuing.

We then also crossed over to Mikhalia Crowie one of Bushradio’s Result Centre correspondants. She spoke about the outcome of the 10:30am press conference. It was reported that about 98% of the voting stations opened on time but those who failed to, were waiting for ballot papers and the turnout was fairly positive in Cape Town.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
