The Morning Cruise show conducted a call-in Interview with young up and coming artist Lia Elise (20), to promote and discuss her new single, music video “Same Old Story”, and talk about what inspired her to become a musical artist.
Lia Elise is a singer and songwriter from Cape Town
South Africa, she came from a musically influenced family; who encouraged her
to learn take up lessons on any musical instrument.
Lia started singing at a very young age of six (6) years
old, once her parents discovered her passion for singing; they signed her up
for singing lessons and since then, without any hesitation she knew she wanted
to peruse her career in music.
Her music style is mostly 80’s influenced with Queen
being one of her biggest influences; she also finds inspiration from local
artists here in Africa. She loves mixing up different genres of music so she is
not limited to one specific sound; this is also her way of creating her own
unique sound that she’s able to express through her music.
Lia also expresses how tough it is music industry, but
her passion and drive for singing allows her to accept the challenges that she
faces, she keeps on learning so much from the industry. Patience and perseverance
are important to have in the music industry.
Her song “Same Old Story” is based on her experiences
from past relationships, and that it expresses her forgiveness to herself. She
found the courage to express herself personally. It was her way of healing from
her past experiences, she also discovered that when she played the song for
others she was surprised to hear that others went through the same situations
as her.
Her music video for ‘Same Old Story” took one day to
film in Johannesburg. The music video is a visual representation of what her
past relationships were like.
