S.A TRIVIA QUESTION
What is South Africa’s national fish?
A – Snoek B – Galjoen C-Koi

Answer: B – Galjoen
The Galjoen is found only along the South African coast. It keeps to mostly shallow water, is often found in rough surf and sometimes right next to the shore and is known to every angler. Near rocks the colour of the Galjoen is almost completely black, while in sandy areas the colour is silver-bronze.It is also known in KwaZulu-Natal as blackfish or black bream.

DID YOU KNOW
Modern Russia started with the rule of Peter the Great. He realised that Russia should be westernised to ensure its independence. Peter sent Russians to be educated in the West, and imported skilled labour, military and administrative experts from abroad. He encouraged smoking, but taxed tobacco. Because European men usually were clean shaven, he taxed Russians wearing beards. Peter managed to modernise Russia without borrowing money for his state. Instead, he taxed his citizens heavily.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Work Efficiently

Step 1
Keep your desk and your files organized to avoid wasting time shuffling through piles of paper.

Step 2
Go through your inbox at the beginning of each work day. Either throw away, file or follow up on each item.

Step 3
Prioritize a list of the tasks you need to accomplish that day.

Step 4
Delegate tasks to co-workers and assistants if possible.

Step 5
Finish one task before you go on to the next.

Step 6
Reduce paperwork by storing on your computer or electronic organizer.

Step 7
Communicate effectively and plan carefully to make sure a job is done properly the first time around.

Step 8
Schedule time when you'll be available, and let colleagues know, to avoid constant interruptions. Close the door if you need to.

Step 9
Take breaks. A short walk or quick lunch away from the office will increase your overall productivity.

Step 10
Before leaving for the day, tidy up your desk and make a short list of projects you will need to do the next day.

Step 11
Try not to take work home. You need the break.

WE ALSO FEATURED:

Patrick Solomon from Molo Songololo, Children’s Rights Centre. He joined us to discuss a very disturbing fact about how Western Cape teenagers are selling their brothers and sisters to theirs friends for group sex sessions. Even parents are turning a blind eye and selling kids for sex to family, neighbours and strangers. What’s more, all they get out of it is as little as a packet of chips (crisp), depending on what the need be. It ranges from drugs, alcohol and even to contribute to the household income. It’s also said to occurring more so during holidays when parents are not around. To find out more about this study you can contact Molo Songololo on 021 448 54 21.

We then played a feature done by one of Bush Radio’s news interns about safety in malls.

Lastly we were joined by Dr John Steer a Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon. We discussed how dangerous our excessive use of mp3/4 players or by simple listening to music on our cellphones at louder than recommended volume is extremely damaging to our hearing. 1.2 hours of daily listening is the maximum, full volume listening should never exceed five minutes a day. This could mean that at the age of 30 one could have the hearing ability of a 80 year old. So if you’ve noticed kids are increasingly reluctant to listen to grown ups or parents this could might as well be because they almost deaf. Dr Steer mentioned one could even lose their hearing in a split second of intense sound. If a shotgun goes off next to your ear, in that split second you lose your hearing.
