TIP OF THE DAY
How to Take Control Of Your Life

By Christen Henderson, eHow Member (http://www.ehow.com/)
Too often we take ourselves for granted. Take control of your life, and start living out your own dreams! We make promises to ourselves we never keep, let yourself down, never follow through, or become a push over - snap out of it!! Show life who's boss by taking control of your life and learn to do what makes you happy!
Step 1
Focus on the good attributes you like about yourself. Stop sweating the small stuff, and be happy with what you have already! Start by making a list of 25 things you like about yourself. Include talents, features, quirks, and achievements. Tape it inside your planner, bathroom mirror, car, or fridge. Read it everyday!
Step 2
Stay away from people who drag you down. That's right. AVOID THEM! You might need to cut a few ties from friends who always tell you what you DIDN'T do, rather than what you DID. Stick with positive people. It's proven that happiness is contagious.
Step 3
Save some money!! Make a goal to save at least 10% of your income. This is after all what taking control is about. To put cash away: Eat out less, shop at discount stores, and don't splurge. This will ensure you getting off to the right start in taking by your life!
Step 4
Live light! Don't take everything too personal. Lighten up a bit. Blaming yourself for things that are not your fault is a major cause of low-self esteem. So the next time you feel the itch to blame yourself - stop, breathe and remember crap happens. Move on!
Step 5
Be positive! Stay away from negative thinking. This means, every time you have a negative thought, toss it aside - make it a point to turn it into a POSITIVE thought. See the good or the funny in something about the situation. You will start to see a big change in the way your thinking.
Step 6
Create time to do what you want. Whether it's your relationships working out, or even reading a book. Make that extra time in your life.
Step 7
Stop caring about what others think!! If you live according to your own values - you will feel more confident and believe in yourself. Doing this will ultimately end up in taking control of what YOU want!

WE ALSO FEATURED:
Project Manager, Michael Mac Lachlan from Infro Max joined us to briefly speak about the ‘gap’ housing in Wetton and Rugby where young couples earning between R3 500 and R10 000 per month, might be able to qualify for hundreds of ‘gap housing’ units being developed by the City of Cape Town and Nedbank over the next few months.

A total of 540 ‘gap housing’ units, which will be sold for between R145 000 and R230 000 each, is being planned in Wetton and Rugby. Michael Mac Lachlan did mention they are still in the planning process and it project itself could take a while. The public however should keep their eyes and ears opening for any mention about meetings etc.

We then played a package done by Bush Radio’s news intern, Yamkela Xhaso. It was about circumcision, is it still safe, the clash between western and South African tribal culture etc.

Lastly we spoke to Councillor Owen Kinahan who joined us to speak about the Southern Suburbs Street People Project. The main thrust of the project is to discourage people from simply handing over cash which keeps people on the street and entrenches a dependency on charity. The project encourages residents to buy and give vouchers from U turn, a volunteer homeless people organisation (http://www.homeless.org.za/) and the Haven Night Shelter (http://www.haven.org.za/) passport. This ensures that those redeeming the vouchers are put into contact with dedicated field workers who can ensure that food, shelter, health, counselling or other needs are implemented efficiently. Contact the shelter on 021- 461 7830 or 021- 674 6119.
