OMNICIENT TUESDAY!
By Amanda Sopko

WORD(s) OF THE DAY

Venerate- to treat someone or something with deep respect, reverence or deference; to revere.

S.A TRIVIA QUESTION

South Africa is only one of 12 countries with tap water that is fit to drink. What is South Africa’s world ranking in tap water quality?
A-Fifth best in the world
B- Third best
C- Eighth best

Answer: B! South Africa has the third best tap water in the world.

DID YOU KNOW

To find out if an egg is fresh or hard boiled, spin it! If it spins easily, it’s hard boiled. If it wobbles, it’s fresh. Also, to see if it’s fresh or gone bad, drop it in water. A fresh egg will sink to the bottom, a stale one will float.

TIP OF THE DAY

How to cook to reduce your risk of heart disease:

Look for low-fat cookbooks and recipes
Use egg whites only. Don’t use the yolk in recipes that call for eggs.
Drain off fat with a cooking rack whenever browning.
Use cooking methods that require little or no fat like boiling, baking or broiling.
Limit your use of solid fats such as shortening, lard and soft margarine.
Use wine, fruit juice or marinade for basting.
Trim fat from meat and remove skin from poultry.

WE ALSO FEATURED:

Juan de Toit from MXit to tell us about their new IM book, Emily and the Veil. You can purchase the book on their site for R13,50.

Nan Rice from Dolphin Action and Protection who talked to us about the 55 False Killer Whales that beached themselves last week. The most important thing to remember if you see a beached whale is not to try to put it in the water. Call a trained professional, since an untrained person could harm the animal even more.

Layla Abbas from Marie Stopes to talk about the abortion scam that is rampant throughout South Africa. People who are not doctors advertise “Painless Abortions,” which are expensive pills that can actually seriously harm the woman. Be careful with yourself! There is never a lack of resources. Call Marie Stopes on 080 011 7785

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Rosalynn Carter- “You have to have confidence in your ability, and then be tough enough to follow through.”
