Good Day! How are you doing? I hope that you well and oh so good. Just a reminder that today in fact is the 6th of August 2008 and that of course means that it is the mid week and what I would like to think as wacky Wednesday edition of the Morning Cruise… ooh so we smack in the middle I’m loving it must say that so far my morning and I trust that you are too loving this morning that is…so you know how people always say ladies night and it’s Wednesday and it’s all about us the ladies…but I thought about it and why can’t we have a ladies morning so no ladies night but in fact ladies morning…I like the sound of that…what do you think mmm rings a bell hey…so you might be thinking why ladies morning…especially you men out there but I though that seeing that the month of August is ladies month why not dedicated a show to the ladies mmm because there are some fabulous women out there doing some amazing things even caring for your family that’s amazing…

Moving onto today’s show we had all the usuals such as you’re Word of the Day, your SA Q&A, and you’re Tip of the Day.

We also had interview with:

*Sam Wilson from Women24 and she spoke to us about a national 2008 female survey.

*We also spoke to Aqeelah Hendricks and she’s from the Independent Women’s Forum, Aqeelah spoke to us about the organisation itself, how they help women in different communities and their women’s day event to take place on the 9th of August.

*Lastly we spoke to Bernadette Ray Ray and she’s from the Ocean View Police Station and she spoke to us about their Women’s Network.

Tip of the Day:

So what's so different when it comes to money matters and being a single parent? A lot actually. Unlike married moms, you don't have the luxury of another income, or a hubby to turn to when you need some advice about your finances. So I’ve got five financial steps that will bulletproof your financial planning and secure a bright, rosy future…

1. Set up a budget and follow it religiously - Your personal cash flow is probably under a little pressure, so you need to be especially prudent with your cash. Pay the fixed monthly expenses first, set yourself an allowance for all the extras, save what's left and avoid the disastrous debt trap. Why, you might ask? Debt is far more dangerous for a single parent than for a couple, simply because you don't have anyone to bail you out when the cash well runs dry.

2. Don’t burden your kids with financial worries - don’t hesitate to let them have a voice in family finances. If you need to eat at home more, let them help you plan menus, clip coupons, and get meals prepared – or at least set the table. Whatever you do, don’t badmouth their dad about money or any thing else.

3. Cover the risk areas (death, disability) - Nobody wants to talk about dying or getting ill. But the reality is that you need to plan for every eventuality, especially when you're a single parent. Draw up a will and keep it up to date. Make sure that you've given some thought to who will look after your child if you no longer could.

4. Stash any spare cash and create an emergency fund - You can't plan every detail of your life, so you need to have a contingency plan in place for emergencies. Create a small emergency fund that is easily accessible and fairly liquid. Save the extra money you have at the end of every month and keep it in your personal cheque account until you have enough to open an investment account.

5. Plan ahead especially for future education costs today - We all want the best for our children and a proper education is key. Education costs a lot and starts as early as day care. I know your budget is a little stretched but you have two choices. You either start saving a little now or pay the full price of not saving later. On a single income it's difficult to find the extra money every month, but make an effort to find the cash somewhere in your budget.

6. Lastly, Don’t hesitate to look for a better paying job - There are two ways to approach a budget crunch – spend less or make more. If you do both, you can really better your situation!
