ALSO FEATURED:
Today on MC we focused on a serious health issue happening in the communities. Certain religious groups are claiming to have a cure for HIV/Aids which then cause individuals with HIV/Aids to stop or refuse to take their antiretroviral. I was joined by
www.tac.org.za member, Andile Mandondile to discuss the matter as well as what the organisation plans on doing about the crisis. Check out the complaint TAC sent to a big media house in South Africa http://www.politicsweb.co.za/politicsweb/view/politicsweb/en/page71654?oid=190635&sn=Detail
I was also joined by sister Mpumie and HIV/Aids patient and activist Fanelwa Gwasu from a clinic in Khayelitsha Cape Town. They continued to provide proof that the situation exist and persist. Sister Mpumie mentioned that at some of these churches who claim to have a cure for HIV/Aids it is alleged that they go as far as asking patients for their blood samples. Sister Mpumie says currently the clinics are experiencing a crisis since loads of patients come in extremely ill because they’ve neglected to take their medication because of religious beliefs and their bodies have now built up resistance to the antiretroviral.
If you have any information on the matter feel free to comment on this blog
