Scientists say that a woman's diet during pregnancy may influence the type or severity of birth defects her baby develops by interacting with the genes of her unborn child. To study the effect of gene-environ ment interactions on embryonic development, researchers fed mice a high fat diet before and during pregnancy and then examined their offspring. They found that a high-fat diet greatly increased the risk of certain birth defects in offspring lacking the Cited2 gene, suggesting that the high fat diet combined with the genetic defect led to this result.

How to Communicate Feelings Without Self Harm

Many people do not understand the concept, reasons and meanings of self harm. Often, people who self harm are dismissed as suicidal, dangerous or emotionally unstable. However, sometimes self harm can be a way to release negative emotions such as depression, anger, frustration and self hate. It can even be a way of showing love and care to one's self - tending to the wounds created by self harm is a way to show care and a kind of nurturing.

An interview with the spokesperson for the Department of Basic education, Granville Whittle. He joined me to discuss the department’s current investigation to the stats on Western Cape schoolgirls in grade’s 3 and 4 having a high level of pregnancy than those in grade’s 11 and 12. Scary stuff! Mr Whittle says the department believes that this could simply be a case of underreporting, or is it?
