The community of Hanover Park is surrounded by the stigma of gangsterism and drug use causing the youth turning towards these negative influences that surrounds them within the community. Although darkness covers the name of Hanover Park, there is light that is shining within the community, thanks to mother of four and founder of GrowBox, Renshia Manuel.
Renshia
Manuel takes the role of a mother for not only her own kids, but also the kids
in her community of Hanover Park through her Organisation GrowBox. The mother
of four uses her Organistion to give back to the community and also teach the
youth sustainability and as well as the importance of nutrition in their daily
lives.
The Organisation
came to life in 2016 when Renshia was unemployed and had to find a way to put
food on the table for her and her family. She started by growing food in her
back garden that allowed kids to harvest what they wanted, and with the
vegetables harvested from the garden, Renshia was able to put food on the
table.
GrowBox is
also connecting to their neighbouring communities giving back and assisting the
necessary resources for people to grow their own food gardens in the comfort of
their homes. GrowBox is aiming to bring light to organic foods as well as
letting the public know that with patience and gentle care you apply to your
garden, you too will be able to supply your household with well nutritional
foods for healthy living.
