Thony Youngin and his journey of music, loss, and inspiration

This Tuesday we welcomed artist, Thony Youngin, in the studio. He is a HipHop artist from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

Thony's music is deeply influenced by his multicultural background and personal experiences. Raised between Zimbabwe and South-Africa, his unique perspective is reflected in his musical style and meaning behind his songs.

Despite a challenging childhood, Thony found refuge in the arts, particularly in music and performance. His passion for drama and music was especially found during his high school years, where he even dressed up as a rapper. Eventually he made a decision to leave school and pursue his dreams full-time. This choice led him on a journey from Johannesburg to Cape Town in 2007, where he lived in various neighborhoods before finding a sense of belonging in Ruyterwacht.

His icons KO, Youngster CPT, Lil Wayne, AKA, and 2Pac also influences his music. However, it was DMX, whose heartfelt messages to Thony on Instagram before his passing deeply affected him, that had a profound impact on his life and music. In response to DMX's death and the personal grief he experienced of his best friend passing away, Thony made the song "Heal," aiming to offer solace and comfort to those mourning their loved ones.

Today, Thony Youngin is not only known for his compelling music but also for his role as a devoted father to his daughter, Chelsea Thandeka Mpofu. He hopes to inspire others to follow their dreams aswell no matter how the journey will go.
