Honoring little warriors; The Kids-Can Cancer Foundation and Rose events

This Wednesday we welcomed in our studio; Kaashief Lakay from the Kids-Can Cancer Foundation and Warda Salie from Rose Events

This month it's Children Cancer Awareness Month or better know as Gold September. This month serves as a global rallying cry to raise awareness about childhood cancer. The gold ribbon, symbolizing the strength, courage, and resilience of children battling the disease, unites communities across the world in a shared mission: to spotlight the unique challenges faced by young cancer warriors and their families.

Childhood cancer is a devastating reality for many. Globally, approximately 400,000 new cases are diagnosed annually, and South Africa is no exception. Of the estimated total, around 1,000 cases occur locally each year, according to the National Cancer Registry. Among the various forms of childhood cancer, leukaemia is reported to be the most prevalent in South Africa, reflecting a similar trend seen worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The 29th of September there is a special Memorial Day at Salt River Blackpool. A day full of remembering and honoring the children who have lost their battle with cancer. But also a day to educate people and raise awareness for this important cause. During the day there will be a biker parade, a place to donate shoes, a tribute display, food stalls, live dj's and other fun activitties. So the day isn't only about the remembering but also about sharing stories with other families and friends, everybody is welcome.

Next week the Kids-Can Cancer Foundation will come to the Morning Cruise again with one of the kids that has cancer to listen to their story.
