HUGO KANYINGU
Morning cruise welcomed the
talented Hugo Kanyingu to our studios to share more about his work that he
does. He is a
Congolese born artist, who expresses what he and his family has experienced.
His focus on colonialism, child soldiers and
the civil war in the DRC come in 'hard'
and although his works may not appeal to the average person he
gives a glimpse into a world that could have been ours had we been born in a
conflict zone elsewhere on this continent.
Hugo, will be exhibiting his art works that he
has created on Saturday, 29 October, at the Montebello design studio in
Newlands. Kanyingu said about his work
that: "Initially the works I create
are all tied to experiences I've had in my life as a child immigrant to South
Africa. I get the inspiration for the grace that I have a means of telling the
world my story. I draw on the pain and emit the light through my compositions.
The paintings were created over a period of eight months in my isolated
'studio' space where I work in absolute quiet solitude."
Gardie
Judge (Masters of Fine Arts and Operations director at the Muizenberg based
Butterfly Art project), said that he is courageous and a true artist, creating visual
manifestations of what comes from within him, of his memories, of the social
traumas he needs to show the world. His work is thought provoking and forces
the viewer to acknowledge the realities of places that are in need of healing.
Although his art and vision is amazing, Hugo is currently still
completing his final year on High school but encourages people to get a hold of
him on +27 68 103 8709
and would love more people to check out some of his work on https://www.instagram.com/
