Interview with Imraan Hodson- Tag rugby Player

 

Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Imraan Hodson, a talented tag rugby player from Beacon Valley, Cape Town. Known for his agility and skill in evading defenders, Imraan has recently achieved a significant milestone by being selected to represent the SA mixed open team in the UK. He attended Hyacinth Primary School in Lentegeur and later Portland High School.

 

Imraans journey started at a very young age of 5 years old, by being a junior Rugby player at Hyacinth Primary School. That was only the beginning and it’s been growth ever since then. December 2023 his good friend Kyle Saunders asked if he’d like to join the tag team tournament, where it went quite well, they won the tournament. Kyle also recommended that Imraan joins the TPL (Tag Rugby Association League), which he did enter. Now he got chosen to be in the Mixed Open Box in UK which starts this July (July 2024).

 

Imraan feels that it is a big privilege to represent SA and he is also very excited as it is his first time leaving the country.  He feels like it’s been a rough journey but now finally he reaps the benefits. He is looking forward to meeting his new team and to start playing with them, as they are a good team, he is hoping to do his best to put himself out there more. He mentioned that his biggest challenge is coming from a community that is not well known and that is known for drugs and where there are gangsters everywhere.

Imraans biggest role model for Tag Rugby is Kyle Saunders, knowing eachother from a young age, there grandmothers lived in the same road. He knows that team work is important and mentions how different Tag Rugby is to 15s Rugby. He also plays 15s Rugby for Village Vipers. Imraan comes from a “Rugby Crazy Family”, so he’s always been into Rugby. He is hoping to grow and succeed in Rugby. He says that hard work is the most important thing, hard work will take you to where you need to be.
