Keeping It Real with the Modern Makoti

Today in studio we were joined by the lovely ZamaHlubi Mathuluka Buso, founder of a women's community called @ModernMakoti on Facebook. She is soon to be an NPO where the community will have talks about both gender's problems in marriage, relationships and just how to make it work.

Zama started her page on March 2018 because she was a new mother, bride and now she has a new life. There came point  where it all became so overwhelming for her, being a mother and doing her motherly duties then having to do her wife duties it was all starting to become too much she felt like she was drowning and what was worse was the high expectation from everyone.

She created the page @ModernMakoti, the page was for her to get tips, some motivation, messages of people giving her strength those kind of things but in a few days later to her surprise, she had 20 messages from other Makoti's ( Makoti is a Xhosa name for Bride) that are going through the same problems crying to her and asking her for advice. Months later she has 10 thousand followers on her page and still growing. She saw that no, this is  no longer about her there are alot of other woman who are going through what she is going through evens worse than her, that is where she changed her page into a community of help and advice.

In as much as she focuses on woman alot on her page, she does acknowledge that men too need such platforms to express themselves about what they feel or going through as father's,husbands and boyfriends. She says men need to get comfortable with getting in touch with their emotions a bit more and it is time that they break that stigma of "men don't cry", men are weak when they show their emotions" that is not on.When you keep things in it only makes matters worse and it will ruin you emotionally, she says.

Listening to her talk about being open and having a safe space or someone to communicate with really seems like it is nothing but it really does help, communication is the a key to everything but with that being said, when you are about to address that issue, choose your words wisely because we all know, words do cut deep. So we should learn how to communicate in a way that what you are saying is being heard and it does not come across as you hurting the other person

On Saturday, September 10th She will be taking her baby out to the community to work for the community as she is hosting a Women’s seminar  called "I Chose Life: Her Story" themed "  Choose life is aimed at encouraging Women or Queens  as she prefer's to call them who have been in abusive relationships to choose life.  She says : "as Queens, enough is enough, we are tired of having to say "Justice for ...." or "RIP...." or even "Free..." which is why we are saying choose life before it gets to the point of no return, the "Kill or be killed" because either way there is no life there".

Let me leave you with a wonderful quote from Peter Sherpherd "Communication is the solvent of all problems and is the foundation for personal development"
Communication is the key to all problems.
