RFK Krump Dance, established in 2009, is a dance school that teaches Krump dancing. Krump dancing is a very aggressive and expressive dance that tries to portray strong emotion through dance. It is a slowly growing dance type in South Africa and around the world. They have an event coming up in April called the 12th Fam Feuds, a dance battle platform, and we discussed that and what the event will be like. Today on Monday Live: Mathew Rudd and Alex Searle!

Today on Monday Live, we had two local musicians perform for a full hour on the Morning Cruise. Their style is best described as a fusion of African soul, folk, rock, and more. To them, genre boundaries are restricting, and cannot affect them. They performed a myriad of songs for us, utilizing a couple of different styles and instruments. We talked to the musicians about their inspirations and origins. They had a very unusual origin story: When Mathew moved to Cape Town, he was all alone, so he began looking for a band to join. While searching on Gumtree, he found Alex! That is how they met and began making music together.

About the Musicians

Matthew Rudd is a Cape Town based Singer, Song-writer and Session Guitarist. Performing live since the age of 17, he is no stranger to the world of music and entertainment. Matthew began playing the guitar at the age of 9 and hasn't stopped yet. Thanks to some talent, and a fair amount of luck, the guitar gifted Matthew the privilege of performing alongside a few of South Africa's finest musicians, namely: Jethro Butow, Francois Van Coke, Aston Creed and Vusi Mahlasela. Matthew is currently recording his first album and manages the booking of artists for events held around Cape Town under the Matt Rudd Music banner.

Alex Searle is a songwriter, singer, bass player, filmmaker, business owner, father and occasional human being based in Cape Town, South Africa. He was born to musician parents who took him around the world in their travels, living in the Middle East and Spain for a big part of his childhood. After finishing school, he played in the family band in Abu Dhabi for 8 months before starting a degree in English and Journalism at UCT. He met Matthew Rudd along the way and they've been playing together for the last 3 years. In 2015 he shot a Youtube-style solo documentary film on the culture of music in Vietnam, called South by South East. It also chronicled the journey of becoming a father during his travels with his future wife, Tiffany. It was his first film and has since been screened in both Cape Town and Hanoi, Vietnam. It is currently in the running for a number of festivals internationally. Since then, Alex has started writing music for films, become a father to a gorgeous boy named Lake and launched a video production company. He and Matthew are currently writing some new material for their debut album. VIDEO TO COME

Interview with CPUT Green Campus Initiative and Career of the Day

Today, we had a brief interview with a representative from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology's Green Campus Initiative (GCI). He talked a bit about the current draught and water crisis in Cape Town, and all the ways that we could help alleviate the strain we are putting on our water supply. He also talked about the university's GCI initiative, Water Warriors. This is a program that allows anyone to help in saving water. The initiative started about two years back, when the crisis became public. Our guest said their cause is important because, according to the city of Cape Town, our days of water are numbered, and soon, water restrictions will be put in place, cutting off the water supply for short periods of time in order to save precious water. Our Career of the Day was an Environmental Management position. Our guest told her all about her profession and the importance Environmental Managers are to companies and to the environment.

Now in the studio: Local musicians Mphozisi, Ta Mavesta, and DJ Villivesta!

Today, we had an avalanche of guests in the studio! Our day started with local afro-soul musician Mphozisi, who was joined by Ta Mavesta, a hip-hop artist from Khayelitsha. Both expressed their love of music from the very beginning, and talked about their inspirations. Both showed off their incredible performance skills live on air to an excited reception.

Later in the day, we had DJ Villivesta, an exuberant DJ from Cape Town. He talked a bit about the types of venues at which he performs, and the performance scene he knows and loves. As we are having difficulties with tech, photos and videos to come.

Interview with Wandile and Friend

Local artists Wandile and Friend came in to studio to talk about their music and their work. Their music is a mix of hip hop and African music and beats. The group consists of Parker Geeh (Facebook: Parker Geeh Instagram: Parker_Geeh) and Wizer Skinny (Facebook: Wizer Skinny Instagram: Wizer_Official). They talked bout their inspirations and their connections to their home town of Khayelitsha. We asked what genre they peprformed, but they gave an ambiguous answer, so we said the proof was in the pudding! So we got to hear them perform impromptu improvisation live! Interview with Mr. Ebrahim Ryland

Today, we welcomed Mr. Ebrahim Ryland into the studio to talk about pensions for the elderly. He talked about how an Older Persons' or SASSA grant can help the elderly get money for retirement. He talked bout how to qualify, and how best to use the grant. According to Mr. Ryland, an older person's grant is a type of social assistance for those who have reached the age of retirement. In order to qualify, one has to pass a Means Test, or the process of evaluating the income and assets of the applicant. Whether you pass the means test or not depends on the consistency of one's income and security of one's assets. But do not worry about qualifying if you are unemployed; some people can if they fall in the parameters of the means test! February, 2017 (Bonteheuwel) – On 25 February 2017 (11:00 a.m. – 21:00 p.m. at Multi-Purpose Centre, Jakkalsvlei Ave, 7764 Bonteheuwel) the Annual D.L.J Car Show will be the 1^st event to be held in celebration & on steering young drivers to excellence.  D.L.J Car Show is a collaborative community drive that aims at creating awareness on fundamental travelling safety principals for young drivers, connecting entrepreneurs and establishing young people in community leadership positions.
The main aim also behind holding this event, is to raise donations for Foots Prints of Hope, an organisation based in Lesotho that deals with children run households that has been affected by HIV & AIDS
