John Reid, spokesperson of the Hout Bay Aboriginal Korana Council joined me this morning to give an update on the Hout Bay uproar. http://bushradionews.blogspot.com/2010/09/hout-bay-residents-protest.html.

Mr Reid says currently individuals whose homes were removed are living with relatives in the nearby area. Word on the street is that the “plan” is simply to move the poor out of Hout Bay according to residents who are born and breed in Hout Bay and have been waiting for housing for the past twenty years. Last week Friday Premier Helen Zille and major Dan Plato were in Hout Bay informing people to remove unoccupied structures on the “fire break” and if not the City would know what to do with it. Peoples/aboriginal human rights have not been taking into consideration. Reid says, “The structures that were broken down were not incomplete, the structures there were complete structures where families were living in, there was food on the table.”.

John Reid also mentioned they have met with COSATU and the ANC about forming a task team however the outcome wasn’t positive. Residents still feel that no politically party can salvage their dignity in Hout Bay. “Our aboriginal right needs to be restored.” continued Reid

Today Reid says that attorneys have approached the court to put an interdict on Helen Zille and cabinet to stop breaking informal dwellings and resurrect those that have been broken down.

The Aboriginal Korana council is seeking help to put together a, “March of Mourning” and any one interest should please email hbkorana@gmail.com or John Reid at 084 59 66 088.

Lastly Sister Annemarie Odendaal then joined me to discuss how early medical intervention can save a stroke victim. “Early recognition of signs of a stroke with the immediate intervention by medical staff has been shown to give a patient a 70% better survival rate,” noted Sister Odendaal.

So what are the indications that an individual may have suffered a stroke? According to Sr Odendaal the following signs should be looked for:
Facial droop. Let person show his teeth or smile. Does one side of the face not move as well as the other side?
Arm weakness. Ask the patient to close his or her eyes and hold both arms straight out for 10 seconds. There may be a problem if one arm does not move or the patient is not able to keep it up and it sags.
Abnormal speech. Have a person repeat a statement such as “I drive a red lorry”. The patient may have suffered a stroke if he or she slurs words, uses the wrong words or cannot speak.

“It is very important that when any of the above signs are evident, the person receives medical treatment without delay,” continued Sr Odendaal.

Questions to free your mind
http://www.marcandangel.com/2009/07/13/50-questions-that-will-free-your-mind/ Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before?
When was the last time you marched into the dark with only the soft glow of an idea you strongly believed in?
If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?
Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?

What is the difference between being alive and
truly living?
When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what you know is right?
If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?

South Africa celebrates Heritage day tomorrow and here's what some organisations have planned

COMMUNITY BUZZ THURSDAY
DID YOU KNOW FACTS
In medieval times, left-handed people could not become knights because it was thought that they were descendants of the devil, it is said. Spiral staircases in castles ran clockwise to allow knights – all right-handed – to battle intruders effectively. 13% of people are left-handed, up from 11% a few decades ago. The story that right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people is a myth.
Animals also are either right-handed or left-handed. Polar bears are left-handed – and so is Kermit the Frog.
