Over the past 30 years, many of Peru's glaciers have melted away, and experts fear that the remainder could disappear in as little as 20 more. One inventor trying to reverse this process is Eduardo Gold, whose proposed plan to whitewash peaks of the Peruvian Andes that were once covered with glaciers was one of 26 winning ideas in the World Bank's "100 Ideas to Save the Planet" competition. The theory is that by lightening the color of the mountain peaks, humans can increase the amount of solar energy reflected back through the atmosphere and out into space and thereby reduce the amount absorbed by the Earth.

Think of the many times throughout your life when you experienced a strange feeling that turned out to be an early warning of danger.
Use your early-warning radar:
Did you take heed of that warning and avoid the impending danger, or did you ignore your built-in early warning radar and walk right into harm's-way?
The funny feeling in the pit of your stomach or the feeling of the hairs on the back of your neck standing on end are ways of your body telling you that something is very wrong.
Any veteran police officer or soldier who's seen combat and lived to tell about it will explain that part of their survival was due to trusting their "gut-feeling" that they were in danger.

Are men facing rapid extinction?
By Tamara Sturtz
London - There's a crisis brewing, but it has nothing to do with the economic deficit or the current political uncertainty. Scientists are warning that rising levels of male infertility have become so perilous that it is a serious "public health issue". And some go even further.
Reports claim that as many as one in five healthy young men between the ages of 18 and 25 produce abnormal sperm counts. Only five to 15 percent of their sperm is good enough to be classed as 'normal' under World Health organisation rules - proving that infertility is not just a female problem. Indeed, among those experiencing difficulty with conception, a male fertility problem is considered important in about 40 per cent of couples.
But women trying to get pregnant are facing another astonishing claim: that the core problems of male fertility - while they may be exacerbated by environmental issues - start in the womb.

TIP OF THE DAY
7 Ways to Prevent Frustration
Stay Organized: Most of the frustration in my life comes from not being able to find things in my house. There is nothing worse that not being able to find your keys, cell phone or shoes. To prevent yourself from losing your possessions, try to make routines, where you do the same thing with the same object every time. A nice trick is to name your documents with a title and a date, because sometimes you need to find things that you wrote at a specific time. Also, clean out your computer periodically, as this leads to less clutter. Clutter is the enemy!
Calm Down: There are many times where frustration is caused by the mentality of the frustrated, which, if you think about it, makes a lot of sense.

How to Tips for Father's Day Gifts He Will Appreciate
Let's show love, support and appreciation for the special fathers and husbands in our lives by giving them a gift they will remember and appreciate.
Step 1
Is your father or husband involved in sports activities like golf, tennis, soccer or fishing? Sporting equipment and accessories are a useful and thoughtful gift with a very long life. They will feel your appreciation each time they use it.
Step 2
What are his interests? How does your special man like to spend his "down" time? If watching movies, reading, listening to music or computer games sound like fun to him then a gift card to a store that carries a combination of books, music, DVD's and the latest games will allow him to select the gift his heart desires.

Having a bad hair day? Spare some thought for your great-grandparents because in their time it took about 10 hours to complete the process of waving hair to withstand washing, weather and time. Compton’s Online Library explained that the advent of electricity sparked a major change in the concept of hairdressing when in London in 1906 the hairdresser Charles Nestlé invented the permanent-wave machine. The bulky machine – about the size of today’s fridge – took almost 20 minutes to get to usable heat and up to 10 hours to complete perming. Still, it was great 20th-century technology. The next year a Parisian chemistry student, Eugène Schueller founded the company L’Oréal, created a dye to cover gray hair with natural-looking colors in a permanent process, and made life a little more fun for a lot of people.

ways to raise a feminist
Bust gender-sterotyping in your family with this psychologist’s 3-point plan.
Johannesburg-based educational psychologist, Helen Macdonald, says that sexism, like racism, is learnt at home. She shares a three-point plan for busting gender stereotypes within the building block of society: the family.
1 Value
‘Everything stems from values,’ says Helen.
‘In the past, underlying, unequal value systems have dictated certain attitudes towards gender stereo-types. Society was once very autocratic with a top-down authoritarian approach. Today the value system is shifting hugely in terms of mutual respect between the genders. We’re seeing a flat effect where the top-down approach is filtering out to a more cooperative teamwork style. On the whole, women are being seen as the respectable, intelligent people they are.’
The bottom line: Parents who value mutual respect and cooperation between the sexes will instil the same values in their children.

Lastly I was joined by Pieter Raaths. Mr Raaths wrote a book about how he changed from being gay to a happily married heterosexual. He knew at a very young age that he was gay and with most gay experiences family and more specifically fathers are left enraged. His father then took him to psychiatrists, did what ever it took to change him. Then at 19 years old an unwilling, unexpected yet natural change occurred. He suddenly felt attracted to the opposite sex (women) a species he never really bothered to look at. What’s more he slowly but surely lost attraction for men. His gay friends mocked his alleged change assuring Raaths that he’ll be back. Quite the contrary. He continues to be a full blown heterosexual, married for 21years and with beautiful kids.
Raaths now helps parents to accept their kid’s sexuality.

SA TRIVIA QUESTION
On the South African flag which colour is on top, red or blue?
Answer: red
Although the colors have no official meaning attached to them, they represent a synopsis of the country's vexillological history and current political realities. Black, green and yellow are the colors of Nelson Mandela's political party. Moreover, the flag incorporates also the colors of the African National Congress and the former Boer republics flags (red, white, and blue). The Y shape represents the convergence of South Africa's diverse society and unity. The South African flag is basically made up of former South African flags and the past meanings of the colors were that red stands for bloodshed, blue for open blue skies, green for the land, black for the black people, white for the European people and yellow for the natural resources such as gold.

TIP OF THE DAY
How to Stop Craving Sugary Foods
Craving sweets is similar to having an addiction to smoking: Each requires a great deal of willpower to quit. Craving sugary foods also requires breaking a habit. Figure out what time of day you most feel the need for sweets. Is there something special that happens to trigger this need for a chocolate bar? Are you upset, angry or sad when you reach for a piece of cake? Find the pattern, and the craving for sugary foods can be controlled or stopped. Sweets are as addictive as smoking and just as hard to quit
1. Step
Keep candy on hand
Take it one day at a time. Make up your mind that you do not want or need to consume sweets for this one day. Try to keep your mind off thinking about having desert or a piece of chocolate after lunch or midday. Have a glass of milk instead, or a cup of coffee and a few slices of hard cheese. Proteins will keep you from being hungry and fulfill the need to have something to munch on.

Scoping out the array of men's gifts at department stores would leave you with the impression that every male in the country is not only in need of a new tie or gadget, but a golf fanatic. Zero in on an enduring hobby or new interest, then shop for gear and accessories he doesn't have yet. Is he a science or computer buff, a car or airplane fanatic, a fisherman, a cook, a gardener or basketball fan? Shop Discovery.com, an auto supply store, Williams-Sonoma or Sur La Table. Visit a local nursery or buy a couple of tickets to a ballgame.

For thousands of years people did not know why we breathe air. Plato and Aristotle believed that nutrients from food were burned in the heart, making the flame that brought warmth and life to the body. They thought that the air that we breathe helped to keep the fire controlled. Oxygen was discovered to be a chemical element, and vital in breathing, by 18th century. Oxygen is necessary for the chemical reactions inside a cell. (The word oxygen is from the Greek meaning acid burning.)

TIP OF THE DAY
How to stop being LAZY!!
Try to figure out what causes it.
If you have too much on your mind and find it hard to even start thinking about all the things you have to do, it's time to write it down. Write everything that comes to your mind, things to do, things to think about, things that bother you. You'd probably realize soon enough, that things aren't as bad as you thought.

You may need to change the way you do your "self talk". Do you talk to yourself like a parent talks to a child? You're grownup now. It's time to change the way you think about tasks and responsibilities. Instead of thinking "YOU have to do this", think- "I want to do this because?" and give yourself a really good reason why.
